Camping in Northern Arizona: Phoenix Travel Photos

Started off following the Colorado river north to the Hoover dam and then went East on Route 66. We stayed in mountain sites where there wasn't a lot of people. It was nice and calm. Paul and I saw a lot of wildlife not to mention did some wonderful hiking. We finished in Sedona and stopped in Historic Jerome for a beer.

Picture perfect
posted by:
Jun 02, 2008 - Jun 09, 2008
I was now in the southwest of America that my mind had been conjuring up for the last four months prior to going and it was very vivid. I had often played this game with my imagination on many occasions before and always ended up somewhere totally unlike the picture i had painted in my head. It was perfect. Telegraph lines gracefully sweeping past in a identical curve between each pole then suddenly changing into a hypnotic tangled mess for a mile. Flat desert with hills…

Headed south

We left early in the morning on Thursday out of gilbert to make it down to the boarder. we wanted to be on the beach as soon as possible. we had a few stops along the way but all in all it was a good drive. we where out of town by 9ish and made it to the boarder around 11. if you ever enter Mexico from ajo Arizona you go through a little town just south of the boarder and for what i understand this is a trap for Americans to get tickets, we didn't have any problems though. it was about a…

We kicked off my birthday on Memorial day weekend and it was AWESOME! The last day was the best part because I got to go to the Salt River  for the very last time:( The Salt River is in Mesa, AZ in one of the Indian Reservations. The drive to the River is really nice and scenic too. It's about 45 minutes outside of Tempe, AZ. Oh, before I go on, please make sure that there is a DD (designated driver) whenever you go here! There will surely be MANY cops on the way back into town just…

Grand Canyon
posted by:
Jan 11, 2008 - May 07, 2008
On our second full day we had decided a long time ago to go to the Grand Canyon and booked a bus tour. We were picked up from the hotel at 6am and taken to the main office to pick up the coach for a very long journey across the desert. Not far out of Las Vegas we went across Hoover Dam where we had a pitiful amount of time to take a couple of photos before getting back on the bus. It was incredible to see though, a real feat of engineering which was necessary in order to tame the viol…

4 weeks in Italy
posted by:
Aug 08, 2007
In case you are thinking about a trip to Italia in the near future, let me warn you that as a result of a weak US dollar, you lose about 40 cents on a dollar. The money lost was not nearly as shocking as accepting the fact that "pepperoni" was green peppers and not spicy sausage. I should preface my comments by informing you that the 4 of us had the help of our ‘adopted daughter’, Francesca "Chicco" Alberghnini. Chicco has spent her entire life in the Italian travel business. A native o…

Our Move to Ulm: Phoenix Travel Photos
posted by:
Jul 19, 2007 - Sep 09, 2007
Hi All,We didn't get a lot of sleep last night, but I think we just may have gotten everything done! The house looked good when we left. The floor got mopped, and things got cleaned. We got the last of our stuff into our 5x4 storage unit which was just big enough for our stuff. The garbage truck came early enough for them to take our trash and we got to put the can away -- the Home Owner's Association can be so picky about such things. We got all 5 checked bags and 2 carry-ons + "personal…

Petrified Forest
posted by:
Feb 24, 2008 - Apr 02, 2008
Today we left cold Gallup. The night was horrible as the KOA kamp ground was located in between a busy railroad track and a highway. Not fun.If we could rate this kamp ground then it would get a low mark. Anyway, we left Gallup and tried to drive Route 66 again, only to find out that Route 66 isn't paved very well everywhere. We've decided to head back a little and drive the highway instead. Not too long after we could take the exit to Petrified Forest / Painted Desert. It's a nation…

Leaving for the weekend

We decided on Sat after I got off of work that we needed to get out of town. So on Sun morning we left for San Diego. It is only a 5 and a half hour drive to San Diego from Gilbert where we live. This is probably one of our favorites places to go when we have a few days off.

DREAM DESTINATION: Serendipitous Sidebar - Holbrook AZ: Holbrook Travel Photos
posted by:
Aug 30, 2008
You'd think we took enough pictures already; but no, the interlude between the Grand Canyon and Santa Fe New Mexico had us at it again. Recorded here are some pics from our stay at Holbrook AZ KOA and those of the approach to Santa Fe. When entering New Mexico its terra-cotta colored earth is attractively different; even used to color the asphalt and concrete in their highways.
