Havasui falls hike
posted by:

This being my first blog I am starting out with a short three day trip that Ann and I plus two neighbors(ED AND SHIRLEY) did last summer.  I think a number of people will find it interesting or at least hope so. I love telling people about this hike since  Supai(the closest town to the waterfalls)  is so isolated on an Indian reservation in northern Az that   the only way to get there is a 8-9 mile hike-horseback or helicopter.  They still get their da…

Arizona - Sunset Crater NM and Grand Canyon NP
posted by:
Oct 25, 2006 - Jan 13, 2007
This trip actually started as a school field trip.  My class spent 4-5 days traveling all around Arizona hitting up Phoenix, Scottsdale, Sedona, Grand Canyon and other stops in between.  Our sight seeing started at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West.  While not a national park site, it was still pretty interesting.  The best part was probably sitting inside Frank's living room in his specially-designed chair - thank God for air conditioning in Arizona! …

Traveling Light

Many of you in the US already know about the 3oz container rule imposed for airport security. I never thought much about this ever since I flew during those moments of crisis in London, where all you were allowed to carry was a clear plastic baggie containing your ID/Passport and car-keys. I'm used to travelling with very little anyways. But for years, carrying a small travel version of my favourite hairstyling product or shampoo was always a pain... Until I ventured into Wal-Mart the other d…

Just pretty much decided to head home back to Page for the holidays... I left early wednesday so that I could catch a game for my neice who plays vasity basketball for Chinle HS.  I decided to also take the way through Payson - since i haven't been there in like YEARS.  I had children with me, so we HAD to stop at Dairy Queen enroute. Good stuff and very very good... ice cream is my kryptonite.

Arrive Flagstaff
posted by:
Apr 18, 2006 - May 19, 2006
Decided that I had better take a look at Historic Flagstaff, since I've been here 4 days and have not gone there yet. First stop this morning was to Flagstaff Mall to see if a camera store there might be able to fix my telephoto lens. Unfortunately, they do not have anybody on staff to handle this. They did give me information of a Nikon repair center in Phoenix, so I may have to head South if I want to be able to use it on the rest of my trip. While at the mall, I walked passed a Taiwanese co…

Lunch and a Wild West Shoot Out in Tombstone
posted by:
Nov 08, 2008
So, after trekking down from Mesa, checking into the hotel in Tuscon, Robyn & I made our way to Tombstone. We were late, but the reception at lunch was great. Holy lordy, talk about a photo gallery, camera's were flashing all around. Travel Buddy's love to take pictures! After lunch Harriet had set up a Wild West shootout at the OK Corall.

Kingman
posted by:
Sep 08, 2008
Following US-93 southeast from Hoover Dam, it is a 75-mile straight shot across the high desert to the town of Kingman, where we got our first look at Route 66.  In fact, it was decision time: whether to take the fast and comfortable Interstate 40 directly east to Seligman, or to take the obsolete but historic two-lane Route 66 through whatever small towns and relics we may find on the way to the same destination. The original road builders thought it would be a good idea to follow the …

Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park
posted by:
May 06, 2007
The admission price is only $7.50 per person and any guided tours that you want to go on are included in that price. The Arboretum was founded in the 1920's. It is Arizona's oldest botanical garden and it sits on 323 acres. They have a self guided tour which is a walk of about 1.5 miles. Some of it is hilly but none of it is difficult. They say to allow 2 hours but I think that three is more reasonable.  Everything is well maintained and if you see plants that you like many …

Leaving Phoenix

Dema and I decided that for the weekend we were going to take the Harley. So we packed and loaded up the bike and was on the road for Tucson at 6. The ride down was ok we didn't start to get cold until we were almost at Tucson. We made it Tucson and Dema said she knew where our hotel was since she used to live in Tucson for 3yrs. So we exit I-10 and ended up getting lost. So back to I-10 to start again but this time a different exit which may take us longer but at least we knew where it went …

Apache Trail
posted by:
May 05, 2007
The entire trail is 40 miles but the paved part is about 17 miles. It is a steep climb with lots of switchbacks. If this kind of driving scares you then I am not recommending it. But if you have some time to spare and want to see some beautiful scenery then this is for you. The trail goes through Theodore Roosevelt Lake, a ghost town and the Lost Dutchman state park. The scenery is so much better than these pictures show.  The road was so narrow and twisty that we just could not take pic…

Phoenix to New York City!!
posted by:
Dec 16, 2005 - Dec 19, 2005
Friday we took off for our fantastic Christmas weekend in New York.  This was especially a big deal, because some of the people in the group that were going had never been to New York before; and others had never been there at Christmas! The trip went smoothly (save an unexpected extended layover in Chicago) until we got to New York, and got in the cab.  We told the cab driver where we were staying, and off we went; driving from Kennedy Airport into the big city, headed for the She…

Time to Take off!!!
posted by:
Dec 25, 2006 - Jan 13, 2007
It was Christmas afternoon; the gifts had been opened, and we had just finished the Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding.  I carried my bags to my sister in law's car, and true to form, my entire cheesy family poured out of my parents' house where we had gathered for a final meal to make a big scene out of waving manically as we drove away towards the airport. This was my first time flying British Airways non stop from Phoenix to London, and I was looking forward to it; I'd always had a fo…

Thursday September 4 Worked in the morning, but made sure to leave the office as soon as I could to watch the second half of the first NFL game of the 2008-2009 season.  My colleague Marcel joined me at the Tilted Kilt for some football, beer and apps.  After the game, ran back to the hotel to change then jumped over to Rock Bottom where I met Adrian, ACowboy, for a beer before calling it a night. Friday September 5 Worked (as usual) then met a former colleague who is trying to g…
