We have just completed one of the most unbelievable experiences that a person could put on their "bucket list". Yesterday we rode down from the top rim to the Colorado River and arrived at the famous Phantom Ranch after about 5 hours on our loyal, trustworthy and sure-footed (sometimes stubborn) mules. We spent the day and night at the ranch, great dinner, swam in the Colorado, and played cards in the Canteen. We didn't want to leave. Breakfast bell rang at 6:30 am and…

I love the sky. The sunrises and the sunsets.. and everything in between.. (well, almost.. haha) so I thought why not make a blog about it and just put up the various pics, just for the sheer beauty of it.

We had only planned to go to the Grand Canyon and then on to Las Vegas before heading to my dad's place. I realized that we were going to pass by the Petrified Forest in the Painted Desert, so we decided to add it to the itinerary. I was really excited about going because I had not been in a long time, and I remembered how beautiful it was. It took us about 3 hours from Albuquerque to get there, and our arrival time was about eleven. Once we got there, we stopped in …

We went to Oatman, AZ on May 5, 2008. This is a neat little
ghost/mining town. They put on little shows in the street having gun
fights to raise money for charity. There are mules wondering about the
town which you can buy carrots to feed them. There is a hotel that has
a ghost "Odie" haunting it. He died behind the hotel. I didn't see
him or hear his spirit as they told us when we were there. Next door
there is a neat bar. People sign the…

Yeah so on Saturday I did nothing. Then Sunday came around and I wanted to fix my truck. The mechanics at Earndhart said that the carrier bearings were destroyed and that I would need to replace them (about $700) then I was like heck no! So I bought the carrier bearing set, which was about $78, and then I went over to my friend Daryl's place to put them in. We took out the old bearings and put in the new ones. When we had the whole thing put in there, we found th…

I have been a college football fan my whole life and in 2008 I was able to take a trip of a lifetime. We started out at the Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona where the Indiana Hoosiers lost to Oklahoma State. I was cheering for my fellow Big Ten bretheren but it didn't really help. The next morning we flew to California and went to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena where USC clobbered another Big Ten team the Fighting Illini. Okay so I am 0 for 2 so far but hey I'm still having a…

My sister was DONE (overdone) with living in El Paso, Texas! She invited me to fly down from Portland, pack up the Ford Focus with some light boxes, the two of us, two kids, and "Bunny" the hampster. We left El Paso, and set out across the southern deserts of New Mexico, Arizona, and California on I-10. Then, headed north on I-5 through California's Central Valley, the southern Oregon Siskiyous, and the Willamette Valley to Portland. (Tracie and the kids continued on to settle in Seattle.)
