Gold King Mine
posted by:
Feb 25, 2006
In 1890, Gold King was a suburb of Jerome, where miners were digging for copper, and instead struck gold!  You can walk in and out of old mercantile buildings, assay office, schoolhouse,  residences, a blacksmith shop from 1901, see the operation of an old saw mill, old mining equipment, see dozens of antique cars and fire engines, feed the animals that reside here (a donkey, some chickens, rabbits, and a goat), and take many amazing photographs!

Canyon de Chelly

Well within the borders of the Navajo Nation in Arizona, Chinle was our final destination to see the great southwest ruins. After miles and miles of red sand and dust devils, we arrived in Chinle. Grabbing a bite at a local restraunt, we went into the canyon. We had decided to visit White House Ruins. Though in the land of the Navajo, White House was built by the Anasazi.  There are several ways to get to the canyon floor for a visit. Hire an expensive 4x4 to drive you down a bumpy road,...

Grand Canyon - North Rim
posted by:
Jul 04, 2006 - Jul 26, 2006
Today was the Grand Canyon, but from the North Rim. Most times you will see reviews and blogs from the south rim, which is the most popular point for tourists. We drive about 80 miles south from Kanab, Utah to the end of the road.   We spent nearly the entire day strolling along at one point and then driving to the next and doing it all again.  But let me remind everyone that this area is at the 8,000 foot level, so the air is thin and anyone with breathing or heart problems shou...

The land is semi-arid and consists of raised plateaus and structural basins typical of the southwestern United States. Drainage systems have cut deeply through the rock, forming numerous steep-walled canyons. Forests are found at higher elevations while the lower elevations are comprised of a series of desert basins. Well known for its geologic ...

In Search of the Energy Vortex

Jan 04, 2006
not only was I completely overwhelmed by the natural beauty and colors of sedona, but also felt, literally, lighter or posessed, when i stood atop a mountain, on a vortex. indescribable feeling of being lighter, and heavier, at the same time. whew! i believe that the descriptions below explain the sort of energy i felt, though it seemed as though it were yin/yang. an equal balance. :) there are five main vortices, and i was on the airport vortex...which is so called because it is by the ...

Mesa Verde to the Grand Canyon
posted by:
Feb 14, 2008 - Oct 11, 2008
Terrific time at the Grand Canyon!  Hiked a bit of the Bright Angel Trail, rode the shuttle bus to Hopi Point on the South side, returned to the east side Desert View and climbed the Tower, etc.  Mather Campground was beautiful.  I was again surprised at how big the place is!  It looks like on the map you can walk from the campground to the rim, but that is a LONG walk.  In fact, we didn't even bike it.  So we were glad to be able to drive and see different ove...
