My Daily Drive to Work and Back...

I debated whether or not to include this... but if we are discussing how bizarre life can be in Phoenix, I don't see how I can leave it out.  It's time to discuss our very special version of the criminal justice system. We have a very well known (infamous, if you will) Sherriff in Phoenix; Sherriff Joe Arpaio.  He is in charge of the jail system here, amongst other things. Sheriff Arpaio, years ago, decided we were (as a city) spending too much money on the prison system; ...

Over the last week, I was amazed when my friend Brenda (who is from Australia but just moved to England) announced that she's purchased a ticket to come to New York to celebrate my birthday with me!!!  Also, my great friend Lorenzo, who I met in Florence and then again saw in London earlier this year, wants to come as well; he hasn't purchased a ticket yet, but it's looking really good! I've become VERY  interested in teaching English in China; preferably in Shanghai or the surroun...

*SAGUARO PARK*  Who said the desert is without it’s own charms? Arizona is known to be a desert • well with temperatures soaring in the 3 digits before mid year, yeah, you can call it the desert. Did you also know that the state flower of Arizona is a cactus called the Saguaro? It is actually a tree, but it blooms great with different color flowers, white being the most common color of the flowers. For most people, the giant Saguaro is a universal symbol for the American west • mos...

Pissy man and retarded supershuttle staff at Sky Harbor Airport

Back at the airport on company wide wifi again =) Finally a moment to think. I was so frustrated during this trip, but it ended up being wonderful. Eko and I had a bit of an all night talk to straighten things out and you know that always makes for a better friendship. I realized that my stress vibes can cripple people into not making any decisions for fear of making me angry. I can’t wait to travel with Eko again whenever that may be and if she lets me. We even have these gorgeous match...

An Ode to Scottsdale (Yes, that is sarcastic)

Scottsdale, how do I describe thee? Let me count the ways. Scottsdale is like if you gave all the robots from WestWorld nothing to read but Hollywood tabloids and let evolution happen. It's a white trash version of LA, with Cactuses and fountains. People drive hummers and  escalades, and for fancy occasions, they rent stretch hummers and stretch escalades. The downtown is filled with boutiques that sell those "fantasy" paintings of dolphins and "designer" lines ...

Lower Antelope Canyon
posted by:
Jun 06, 2006
There are two canyons, the Upper Antelope Canyon and the Lower Antelope Canyon. Our first visit was to the Lower Antelope Canyon which, of the two, is the more challenging hike. This canyon is not for small children or anyone with a walking or balance issue. Not to worry though because the Upper Antelope Canyon has pretty much the same scenery but is an easy walk that anyone can do. The location is north eastern Arizona. It is a very scenic drive from Flagstaff. We ar...

First I just have to tell you about little Andrew. He was simply adorable. 5 minutes after I met him, he was in my heals and followed me anywhere. He wanted to show me stuff, and talk all the time. Poor me could barely understand what he said.. lolHe was just 2 years old, but had alreday learned his ABC, knew that if anything happened, he should call 911 and he also knew their phone nr. in case he got separated from his parents. Wow.. kids sure learn at an early age in the states. B...

In a Bus Along a Desert Road
posted by:
Jun 01, 1995 - Jun 25, 1995
From San Diego, our next stop for the night was Scottsdale, Arizona.  It was a long drive and not a lot of time to stop and stretch our legs, so the perfect opportunity to get to know one another. Marie, the tour guide picked on me first to stand up the front of the bus and tell a bit about myself. At the time, I was working as a flight attendant so I stood at the front of the bus and gave a safety demonstration. I demonstrated how to use the windows as emergency exits. I also showed the...

Ahhh, the glorious red rocks of Sedona--what a vision to behold!  Walking around the city you cannot help but feel caught up in the intense energy around you.  There are vortexes, or swirling centers of energy, coming out from the surface of the earth all over the place.  These vortexes were first discovered by the Native American tribes that used to inhabit the area.   I visited several through a tour agency, whose site is: www.sedo...

Arizona Monsoon

Each summer in Arizona we go through a short storm season.  Just as the temperatures become unbearably hot, a little moisture starts to come in and we get our summer "Monsoon!"  From the right vantage point, you can watch a wall of dust, some over 2,000 feet tall (A 200-Story building!) engulf the Valley at speeds up to 35 miles per hour.  If we are lucky, a thunderstorm will roll in right behind it, dropping the temperature (sometimes 20 degrees) and bringing us our muc...

My flight itinerary:  TUC - LAS - MCI - TUS, on Southwest Airlines. I flew Southwest Airlines to Kansas City, Missouri with a stop at McCarran airport in Las Vegas for 3 hours. With just three hours of a layover, I dared not go out of the airport, not with all the traffic. So I spent time eating, drinking coffee and the best part • people watching. The start of my journey was of course frustrating and annoying because I lost my camera through the security screening gates. Of all place...
