Route 66 Jan 24, 2017
On our way to the Grand Canyon we passed through the town of Seligman on historic Route 66.

Route 66 was one of the earliest highways in the USA. It opened on November 11th, 1926 and ran from Chicago all the way to Santa Monica, California, a total distance of 2,448 miles.

In its heyday Route 66 was lined with motels, restaurants, shops and bars, but these businesses went into decline in 1956 with the signing of the Interstate Highway Act which caused much of Route 66 to be bypassed.

We visited Route 66 in Arizona at Seligman. Apparently the town of Radiator Springs in the Pixar film Cars is loosely based on Seligman.
