We arrived safely at our Hostel in Arica. Our first impressions of the Jardin Del Sol was that it was a bit like the rooms out of the hit BBC "comedy" Hi-Di-Hi, but it is fine! Our first impressions of Arica are a bit like a cross between Torquay and Porthcawl - a bit of a scruffy seasi…

This was
one of the greatest days of the trip! First the took a look at Arica, which is
a beachcommunity and quite rich it seemed (but that could be a contrast between
Bolivia and Chile, I don’t know). There is a clean shopping street with lots of
fashion. The most important sights of Arica a…

There are large mountains covered in sand with red rocks protruding and just vast stretches of nothingness. The road proceeds south without many signs of civi…

As for me Latin America is one of the most fascinating regions in the world, it was just a question of time when my wandering shoes would bring me there. What should I say? The trip was all this: amazing, a bit stressful, unforgettable, exiting, fascinating, genuine...all in one?...just great.

Hello All,Yesterday afternoon was very nice. The weather in Lima was perfect, all the way up to 80 with light clouds. I checked out of the hotel around noon, and took a taxi to the center of the city. The taxi cost about $2.50, and was hampered by some pretty fierce traffic the closer we got to do…

We started our 3 weeks trip with a 27 hour bus trip from Santiago to Arica. From there, we took a private tour to the National Park Lauca & N.P de la Vicuna's, down to Iquique. After visiting the port of Antofagasta, we headed for San Pedro de Atacama and visited the famous Valle de la Luna and Tatio Geysers. In our last week we headed back via La Serena to Santiago.

Night bus time! As I wait for the bus to arrive, all I'm thinking to myself is, "Please, please don't let the passenger beside me be a woman carrying two kids". Kids, after all, ride free on their parent's lap in Peru and Bolivia, and I've seen some sizeable kids get free rides. T…
