The last few days of my trip I just stayed around Buenos Aires, strolling round town. However I did treat myself to a leather jacket. I went to a factory outlet shop called Bettina Rizzi, 547 Paraguay Street (www.bettinarizzi.com. tel: 4313-5307), which produced a tailor made very soft leather jacket in the design I wanted for 220 USD. Much cheaper than it will cost back in England. This ends the adventure, it has been full of great sights and the great memories and very warm people make me h...

This is a great closure to my experiences in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There are so many things from this city that I am going to miss. I miss home (Atlanta, Georgia), but I feel like I part I me that I have discovered is being taken away when I leave. I can not even begin to describe how great the friends, that are locals here, were to me and how much I will miss them when I leave. I look forward to seeing them again soon (hopefully in December), and treating them to a...

Reflecting on Buenos Aires is a little difficult. For the time I was in the city I kept trying to get out. On the weekends there were so many places I wanted to go. Throughout the week we kept doing so much with the group to see the city that I felt on my free time I should go see what else was accessible. I was finding ways to go explore other parts of the country on our free time. Then after being in the city for a while I began to find my own parts that I really enjoyed. There were p...

After a whirlwind European trip through 10 capitols in 29 days, a friend and I once sat down, determined to try a different path. We had followed the guidebooks, heeded the advice, and sprinted through miles of museums leaving a trail of ill-formed and hazy memories laying in our wake. It wasn’t working and we embarked on a new strategy. The next stop, Buenos Aires, was to be different.&nbs...

Our final day in Buenos Aires did not really include anything extraordinary. Instead we predominantly spent the day doing Luqman’s favorite activity-shopping. If there’s one thing I know about my friend, it’s that come hell or high water, nothing stands in his way of buying some nice souvenirs. (To his credit, much of the shopping is on account of his family and friends). &...

Arrived in Buenos Aires EZE airport. Aerolineas Argentinas is shambolic. The Argentinians are resigned to this fact. Upon landing they all erupt into a fit of raucous applause. Im unsure whether this is to congratulate and thank the pilot or whether it was an expression of thankfulness that they made it back to ground alive, at least this time. Incidentally the latino men also clap for the pretty argentinian women who get on the plane.
Buenos Aires airport is c...

I consider myself a somewhat well traveled individual, and while I haven’t seen the world, I have seen enough to know that I want more. The biggest problem I have with traveling is overcoming stereotypes. I’ve traveled with both South Africans and Americans, and while I thought that being branded a racist was bad, I hadn’t really experienced true anti-American sentiment until last night. Being Jill’s birthday, we decided to combine our ambition to see more of the neighborhood and an e...

So as I sit in this coffee shop, on the corner of two very European reminiscent streets, I have to ask myself: how do they do it? By 'they' I mean the Portenos of Buenos Aires, as they are so proudly called. I'm running on three hours of sleep (which brings my total for the week up to 14), too many cafe con leche's to count, and the adrenaline left over from last night's club experience. In all honestly I'm starting to wonder if I'll make it to Saturday. The life of a Portena is indeed a dema...

Keeping it going, it is your neighborhood guest blogger again, giving Miss Cho another much needed finger rest. She woke up complaining of Charlie Horses in her fingers and wrists, and me being the guy I am, I said that I would take over her duties for another day. We have once again reached the weekend, with this Saturday being the 9th day that we are in Argentina with Brandon being here for a little shorter time. The time has gone by delightfully slow. We have reache...

When I meet a native here in Buenos Aires, the question “De donde eres” always arises. In the beginning of my stay I would always reply “Soy de los Estados Unidos” because Atlanta is where I was born and raised. Lately I have started to reply that “Soy Pakistani”. It’s been interesting to see the change in reactions in the people here as I go from being American to being Pakistani. When I reply back that I am Pakistani, I seem to get a more positive response. I think this is...

Arriving in Buenos Aires wasn´t too much of a shock to the system after Sao Paulo, however it was on average about 8oC during our stay. We arrived late at night into BA airport after finding a cheap(ish) flight on the internet and letting spontinatity take hold! For our first two evenings we stayed in a nice HI hostel that Emma was paticularly happy with (lots of heaters!!). The hostel was an old apartment block and had beautiful wooden spiral staircases, a old lift with no glass just t...

I met Eric on Couchsurfing cause of his posting in the "running" group. So we got into contact and started writing...Even
we hadn't met personally yet Eric is something what is called a good
friend. Perhaps that sounds strange, cause we didn't met yet... but
nevertheless I can say we are something what is called good friends....
;-)We are writing each other almost every day and in August Eric
will come to Frankfurt. We have already some plans what we will do when
he is here in Germany, f...

I went to the flamenco show that I missed the first time some people went because I was in Montevideo. It was great! I don´t remember a time when I saw so much emotion put into dancing and playing instruments. Though tango may be more exclusively argentine, (and I like everything argentine) the flamenco show was much more entertaining for me then the tango show I went to a few weeks ago. My impression of tango is that it makes a show out of being politically inco...

In Argentine politics there is something called strong executive power. In this instance, the president enjoys greater influence and power beyond the executive branch, specifically encompassing the legislative branch. Last week we had the privilege of meeting a deputy (equivalent to a United States Representative) from the Rio Negro province who being from the opposition party, confirmed this with a smile and a hint of bitterness. When asked whether it is difficult for his party to find commo...
