Around 1:40pm we arrived to Buenos Aires City.
The tour ended in the city. The bus would stop in 2 places. At the French
Embassy in Recoleta. This stop was made for the people who wanted to visit the
fair and enjoy a nice lunch there. My mom and I were still full from our
delicious dinner from the night before :P . So, we waited for the other stop: “Galerias
Pacifico”, a nice mall located in Retiro walking distance away from Plaza Mayo.
We didn’t plan do shopping. ...

I had the privilege of going to the fabulous city of Buenos Aires this summer. This had been both a dream spot for both me and my dear friend Noah. We had narrowed it down to three destinations: Germany, Norway and Argentina. Having recently gone to Spain, we thought maybe it would be best to go somewhere other than Europe, that and Norway was very expensive at the time. Germany was cheaper, but we wanted to add another continent to our list. Consider it done, Bu...

And here we are again, back in the beautiful wonderful amazing city that is Buenos Aires. We managed to time our 2-night visit on the weekend so we enjoyed having a meander around the hippie market in La Boca on Saturday and then the San Telmo Sunday market. Very different to 10 months ago in terms of weather as it is now slap bang in the middle of the winter and it is FREEZING!!!!! It snowed here a few weeks ago, the first time in some 90 years!!
La Boca is a fascinating area...

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
For Rio, I noticed the graffiti first. Here in Buenos Aires, I noticed that all along the side of the freeway there were cars parked on the grass with families gathered around. They were BBQing, playing soccer, flying kites, and riding dirt bikes in the grass along the side of the freeway. It was as if they were driving and suddenly decided to pull over for some family fun. It brought a smile to my face as my taxi drove me from the airport to my apar...

25 hours after departing KL (and 1-hour stop overs in Joburg and Cape Town) MH201 finally landed at Ezeiza Ministro Pistarini in Buenos Aires at 216PM, February 13, 2008.
The sky was a perfect blue and the sun was all out. The sweltering heat embraced me as soon as I exited the airport. The exact opposite case when I first touched down in Ezeiza back in June 2007. Back then, it was raining and chilly, the vibe was totally dark and gloomy.
I wasn't able to send out blog entries in ...

Buenos Aires is a beautiful city with so many contrasts. It takes around 40 - 50 minutes to get from the airport (Ezeiza) to the center of the city. On that way you could start notice the diversity, nice flat landscapes followed by old buildings with poor maintenance.

My hostel offered a package deal to the futbol game! I, of course, thought it was a deal, until discovering that tickets cost 15 pesos! I willingly paid 120 pesos to go with the group, which included transportation and a great chorizo snack as well as avid Argentinian futbol fanatic guides:) PRICELESS!
The closer we walked to the stadium, the fuller the calles became, and the more blue and yellow I saw. Futbol in Argentina is like nothing else I've experienced, and I grew up playing futbol!...

The perfect way to avoid the cold, rainy and short winter days of the Netherlands, is to fly to the summer. It only takes 14 hours of flight time (2 hours for AMS-MAD & 12 hours for MAD-EZE) to be in Buenos Aires. But if the captain would have turned back halfway, and flewn back to Madrid, I may not have noticed the difference. Buenos Aires looks a lot like Madrid: huge European-style buildings, everything in Spanish, activity at all times of the day, and there is even a C&A here. The...

When a steak is over three inches thick, is it still considered a steak? Or half a cow. We had heard the rumours about Argentinian steaks...and honestly, they are all true. Vegetarians beware, you will be converted if you come to this country.
We are undergoing a bit of culture shock at the moment after spending so long in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. And feeling a tad underdressed in our ragged clothes that should have seen their last days many days ago. This is one cosmopolitan co...

KERRY - So after the trip to the mines we decided that we needd to move on to a more sophisticated way of life in Argentina. Bolivia had not impressed us all that much and we wanted to move on. We have since met people who loved Bolivia and thought it was the best country in South America, so we may not have seen the best of the country, but we did not find the people as friendly and the poverty there is really apparant.
We took our first night bus to the border town of Villazon. We survive...

San Telmo is a "barrio" (neighborhood) located in Buenos Aires. It has a very a very particular atmosphere as in the 19th century was inhabited by the wealthiest families of Buenos Aires, until the yellow fever forced them to move. Now a days we can still appreciate the beautiful and finest arquitecture.
On Sunday there's this city's popular antique market...

Group: Derek, Divya, Vicky In 1983, Argentina returned to a democracy after eight years of a military dictatorship. The free and fair elections that took place at the end of Raul Ricardo Alfonsin’s presidency, in 1989, to the outset of Carlos Menem’s presidency marked the beginning of Argentina’s federal, presidential, representative, democratic republic, and it was the first time that Argentina held a fair election with a peaceful transfer of power from one party t...

Yesterday we took advantage of what time we had left at Iguazu and went back to the national park. It was well worth the second visit as there were more trails there to explore and sights to see. This time we took the Gran Aventura tour, which involved a 4X4 guided tour through the rainforest, followed by a boat trip around the central island of the falls and into(!) some of the waterfalls themselves. We ended up getting soaked, but in the blistering heat and humidity, we were quickly dr...
