Impressive chapel May 09, 2011
The main church of Arezzo has been on the site since the thirteenth century, and even before then, the site was affiliated with worship in the town. The cathedral is a rather impressive and handsome building, and has several claims to fame if you like. The wooden parts of the choir were designed by Vasari, some of the stonework was chiselled to perfection at Donatello’s workshop and Gregory IX from the thirteenth century has his own funerary monument here. The Capella della Madonna is a very impressive feature within the cathedral, and its beautiful decoration makes it a church in itself in many ways. Definitely worth visiting while here. Elsewhere, the standards are not bad at all and if you are in Arezzo, this is perhaps one of the key places to visit.
