Arenula Inn Rome Reviews
The Dungeon of Rome Nov 01, 2009
The Arenula Inn of Rome Italy is the kind of place that you wish no other traveler has to endure, unless said traveler was trying to smuggle contraband and was apprehended by the local government. Actually called the Artistico Bed and Breakfast (a minuscule sign on the front of the door by the street), this series of converted apartments promised air conditioning (translation: a very leaky and very noisy plug-in mobile unit that required towels to be laid down), and breakfast at your door (prepackaged and unboxed factory snack cakes on a tray). The beds were hard as bricks, robbing us of our much-needed recovery sleep from traveling out of LAX. The bathroom toilet sprays water on your head from the high-mounted tank as it fills back up, the shower was tiny, and the in-room TV? Forget it. It isn't coded to work. We never figured it out. All of this after the cryptically-keyed doors that would give Indiana Jones a headache. Each night,
loud construction projects, a loud and lonely man who lost his dog (my best guess; God knows what the story was there) and the local bar letting out the obnoxious drunks all served to irritate. Who, then, to confront the room problems with? The non-existent staff, who were only there long enough to TAKE A PAYMENT before giving up the rooms, charging an extra day and charging over the amount advertised, and in cash, yet they advertise credit card acceptance. We were first-timers to Italy, and these people made sure that we got the shaft. If there was a way we could get the money back, we would do it. But after we angrily questioned the breakfast-delivery man, he finally admitted that the owner lives in Israel and doesn't even see the premises!!
*AVOID AT ALL COSTS THE TRAP OF THIS FACILITY UNLESS YOU ARE A SELF-SADIST*
