Seeing a volcano--a new first for me!

We awoke to rain, surprise surprise!  I tried to not let the bad weather effect my mood too much, since I did know prior to booking the trip that May is the beginning of the rainy season in Costa Rica.  So, I knew what I was getting myself into.  Because all outdoor activities were no longer an option, we spent the whole day at the Lodge's spa.  Sarah and I both got massages, body wraps with mud from the volcano, and pedicures. ...

My vacation to Costa Rica in the raining season. We were also a few days in Panama. I travelled in a group with 25 persons. I loved it !! About the speed in Costa Rica and Panama: someone told me there that you have slow, than slower, then slowest. After that you get Costa Rica and finally Panama. ;)))

Back to the fancy dan Volcano

Smoking ConesRather than stay in La Fortuna (the town close to the volcano), my fellow travelers and I spent our three days in some quiet cabinas on the active side of Arenal.  And what a choice it proved to be.  Prior to our arrival, the volcano had been shrouded in cloud for 22 days straight. We got some real luck as the sun came out and we saw the beast in all its glory.  There is something magical about being a mile away from an active volcano.  We were a...

Arenal Volcano and Tabacon Hot Springs
posted by:
Feb 13, 2008 - Feb 19, 2008
This morning we had to meet the Gray line tour bus to go to Arenal at 8:30am. They were picking us up at a different hotel so we had to get everything ready. It was a good time to get up and get going. Everything was easy to pack up since I didn't really unpack too much from yesterday. I brought one big backpack and a small side bag. My friend who dropped me off at the airport and then Atiba both commented on how little I was taking. I had been planning for weeks on what I...

DAY 5. 8:54 PM (EST)
posted by:

Today is the day we leave Monte Verde and venture off into the wilderness once again. This time we're heading for a danger zone that I'd like to refer to as... DEATH TRAP. Next stop is the highly active volcano of Arenal. It reminds me a lot of that movie Dante's Peak, but as I think about it even more, it's going to be a lot of fun. I LIKED THAT MOVIE! :-D haha... It took us 5 hours to get off the mountain and back into the city. For me it was about 2 hours because I was sleeping most of the...

To wind up our trip to Costa Rica, we took a short road trip to the the active Volcano at Arenal.  Although we didn't get too close it was amazing to hear the load rumbling and see the steam rising.
