Area61 Travel Reviews

Dec 15, 2007
Area61 is Melbourne's main club for electronic music, and the place to be if you like electronic music! Situated on Fitzroy Street in St. Kilda, in the heart of the clubbing scene in Melbourne. As it's a well known club so locals and taxi drivers will know where it is. Several ATM's located near by.

Area61 is fairly small for a club, partly because it's devided in two seperate area's, the lower and main area, and the upper deck. The two different area's sport different styles of music. You can't hear the music from the other area, as they're well isolated, as it should be.
The club also features special parties, clubnights, lingerie shows, hunk contests and more.

Lower area:
The main area features a bar, a small dancefloor and two loungy areas where you can crash after hours of raving. The bar personnel is okay, serving is quick. Mainly trance, dance, house, progressive, big beats.

The upperdeck:
The upperdeck includes a bigger dancefloor, another lounge area and a long bar. This area is not always open, depending on the night of the week. Mainly pop, hip hop, rap flavored music.

Most clubbing is expensive, Area61 not overly so. Local beers will cost you around A$3.50 (2.20EUR), shots for A$7 (4.20EUR), Red Bull A$5 (3.50EUR) and Heineken A$7.50 (4.5EUR). Check out their site for discounts, free shots and free champagne! Entry cost is average, most fridays are free, saturdays will set you back A$10 to A$15.

If you're into electronic music, make sure you visit Area61 when you're coming to Melbourne. It's the main place for tunes in Melbourne and you'll have a great night!
