Arden Guest House Sep 28, 2013
The Arden guest house is in Kingussie (pronounced more or less Kinoosie, I think), which is a very small town in the Cairngorms, just off the A9, about 55 minutes south of Inverness. It is a good place to spend a night either as a base for the Cairngorms themselves, or a staging post for heading further north or west. The guest house itself is very easy to find, on the main road through the town, but the road is quiet and the house is set well back so there is no noise. The room I had was huge – you could have slept four in it easily, as there was a double bed and two singles – although that was not planned and I think some of the other rooms were smaller.

The owners are incredibly welcoming. They offered me a sherry when I came in, and were very happy to recommend places to eat in the town. There was plenty of tourist information in the room, too, if you felt like staying long enough to go walking and things like that. Everything was very clean. Breakfast is included. You order from a menu the night before (full cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, that sort of thing) and it is cooked freshly. The room was nicely decorated too.
