Ardawn House

This was unfortunately the biggest mistake we make during our two week trip to Ireland. When we checked in the host was more concerned in going to her hockey game than to tend to her guest. That should have been the first thing we noticed but the realization became evident when we showed ourselves to our room. The interior of the room had run down furnishings and no extra electrical outlets for use. The bathroom overlooked the nextdoor dog racing track with mismatched bath towels. Our room was on the second floor facing the front parking lot which ran parallel to the main thoroughfare. We didn't think much about it at the time which was another mistake. We had travelled all day and was too tired to try and find another place so we stayed.
The B&B is just a 10 minute walk to town which was a nice thing about it. We freshened up and decided to head to town and spend the evening. Returning about 10pm. they was no one around and so we turned in for the night or that's what we thought.
Remember me mentioning the main steeet, well there was traffic noise all night long. Even when I closed the front window you could hear the noise through the thin walls. Then the room became stuffy and when I went open the bathroom window for fresh air there was a sensor light that kept going on and off shining right into the room. Unfortunately my wife didn't get to sleep until after 4 in the morning and we got up about 7:30. Decided to take a shower and the darn thing hardly had any pressure. There was no temperature control as it was either too hot or freezing cold.
We went downstairs for breakfast which was the second and only other good thing we experienced there. We had made up our minds to leave and spend the day travelling to our next destination and rest. We had planned to site see today but we were too tired and decided to change our plans and not spend our second night here. When I told the host we were leaving because of the noise she said we should have told her. She said no one has ever complained before and she could put us in a quiet back room and rest. Well, what good was that going to do as our day for exploring was shot. I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with the area and maybe if she had spend more time with us upon checking in she could have shared more and we could have changed rooms. How were we suppose to know about the noise in the area. And another thing was that when we returned from dinner there was no one around to help us. Anyway, she said she could not refund our second night fee unless she was able to rent out the room. Well we had already made up our mind that there was no way we were going to spend another night there even if we lost out on our money for the second night.
We were already packed up and while loading up our car I ran into another couple, the only other people, who also stayed at the B&B that night. We talked and I told them we were leaving because of the noise. The wife then related how she had encountered the same problem with the noise and had a restless sleep.
Let me give some advice which I failed to do myself when we planned this trip. Read reviews on places you are thinking about staying at. We took the advice from one of the popular travel books on places where to stay but failed to read any reviews from other sources. After our experience and going online I found a couple of similar complaints made by guest who also stayed at this B&B. Don't get taken or ruin your holiday by staying at this place.

Save your money, time and fustration by passing this place and going elsewhere. This B&B is overpriced and noisy. Got in late in the afternoon where the host was too busy for us as she had to go to her hockey game. Enjoyed a great evening in town only to return for have a restless night because of all the traffic noise from the main street directly in front of the place. We were also bothered by the lights from the dog racing track neardoor outside our bathroom window.
When informed of the above issues we were offered other accommodations in rooms facing the rear but our day was already done. We were too tired to experience the rest of the town and decided to leave forfeiting our second nights charge. Host said they could refund this fee if they rented out our room but who in their right mind would go through what we had. As we had anticipated our credit card was charged for the two nights even though we stayed just one night.

Cute little B&B with very friendly people running it. Our room looked over the Greyhound track. The morning we were leaving the man who owns the B&B gave us some great tips about what to see in the area!
