Far away and up in the Arctic Circle Jul 04, 2015
Has anyone walked through Nordkap moors in the hauling wind? Believe it or not, but it surely works up your appetite. And with a long drive ahead to our first Finnish location, we needed to stop somewhere to satisfy our stomachs.

Driving through small Norwegian villages spread along the northern shores, we were on the lookout for a restaurant or a diner. Once we reached Honningsvag, we decided to venture dipper into the village in search of a place. And that decision has certainly paid off.

At a first glimpse, Arctic Sans looks more like a little coffee place rather than a resultant. Feeling brave and hungry, and we all know how brave we become when faced with luck of food, we walked in just to be surprised with the set-up of this small establishment.

Indeed, the first part, which you see mostly from outside, resembles more a little coffee place. With the long table running along the windows and the tall chairs, you would not think twice. Once inside another area, hidden from the street view, stretches towards the back. That is the restaurant part.

To our surprise, considering how small and remote this village was, communication was not an issue and we were even given English menu to order from. And help from the lady handling the orders.

The choice was tough since we were in the fisherman village. A lot of the dishes were seafood based which caused me a slight trouble to make my choice.

Finally, we were ready to order. And there it goes – reindeer stew with mushroom sauce and rice served with the famous berry sauce, and half of a fresh crab served with rice.

Since this was early Saturday afternoon the place was not very crowded and we were seated at the table right away.

Knowing well that the food will take few minutes to cook, we were taking in the local atmosphere listing to the very few locals sitting next to us.

The restaurant part is rather simply decorated which goes very much with the location of this place. Still, it has its own charming style of a small village gathering dwelling.

Who cares about the looks any more when the food is on the table? And it smells and looks as it wants to be eaten immediately. So we dig in without a delay. Delectable and juicy crab was melting in my mouth. Tender reindeer meat completely covered with mushroom sauce. Nearly no words were spoken till we both finished.

One might think, that was only because we were so hungry to begin with. But I dare to claim that was down to the fact that the food was great.

And soon after the meal was over, it was time to make our way.

We paid our bill, €56.80 including some drinks, cheerful and content for the oncoming journey.

Holger, by this point we would have had plenty reindeer dishes. And being so far up North, I wanted to try super fresh Nordic fish :)

Interesting review. If the choice is fish or reindeer stew, I would go for the latter. *winkygrin*
