I-20 in Idaho is a long and empty road with little to look at.  Partway through the state, I came upon three large buttes sticking up on the landscape - finally something to break up the flat country!  I was on my way to Craters of the Moon National Monument - described by President Calvin Coolidge as "a wierd and scenic landscape peculiar to itself" when he established it as a National Monument in 1924.  The astronauts trained here before heading to the moon in 1969 becau...

Bike & Build provides young adults with the opportunity to participate in a cross-country bike trip across the US to raise awareness for affordable housing. My route cycled from Virginia Beach, VA to Cannon Beach, OR (5/15/08-7/25/08). Once a week, we traded our bikes in for hammers and helped with Habitat for Humanity or another affordable housing organization. It was, by far, the greatest travel experience I have ever had.

I left Huntington UT this morning heading west on UT31 towards the Manti LA SAL National Forest. Man this is one fine piece of road, I almost didn’t stop for pictures. The Aspens haven’t started to leaf yet. Then it was up to the summit 9787 ft. (2983 m), just missed 10000 ft (3048 m). Notice the lack of tress and the snow flags for the plows.
