Just across from the Monterey Bay Aquarium is Archie's, a self-proclaimed "American Diner." Unlike Fast Buck Freddie's, the food actually does taste like American diner food, which could either be a good or a bad thing. It's definitely a good place to go with kids - the milkshakes are excellent and the tables are covered in paper so you can color on them (crayons provided) - and you can't beat the proximity to the aquarium. I don't personally like the restaurant in the aquarium, and it's pretty upscale for families who just want a simple days out with the kids. Archie's has a huge menu of American favorites like chicken strips, hamburgers, salads, and the like. If you eat it, they'll serve it to you in red plastic baskets with checkerboard wax paper inside, but they're just as happy to make your order to go. Just let them know at the register. Unless you walk, you'll have to pay for the metered parking outside - $0.25 for 20 minutes. Just make sure to bring a quarter and you should be fine.
