small town attraction! Jan 02, 2008
October has many special events that the city of Del Rio, likes to put on. One such event is the annual Archeology County fair. It is held at the Whitehead Museum grounds for two days, a Friday which is the school children’s day and a Saturday which is the open to the public day. The archeology fair is meant to educate on the ways and lives of the ancients of the area. They put displays that are hands on for all. Such as corn grinding and rock painting, but the most fun is usually the Native American dancing that is put on by the Kickapoo tribe that resides just an hour east of Del Rio, in Eagle Pass. This year they added a little bit of excitement when they brought in camels, to help speak of the history of the Texas Camel corps. Every year they make it just a bit “cooler” than the year before. The admission fee is less than $5 per person. It’s always scheduled in October, so if you plan to be here in that time frame be sure to stop there, there is always something neat to see! Besides you can tour the museum for free on that day!

Tons of locals volunteer on that weekend to help make it a most rewarding experience for the visitors. So not only do you get to learn interesting tidbits on the history of the area you also get to meet the heart and soul of Del Rio, its locals!
