Snorkeling or Diving on a Roman City Nov 26, 2011
Back in the 1970s I used to go diving around Naples, looking for artifacts from the past. One of the best areas to see roman ruins in very shallow water is off the beach at Lucrino (near Pozzuoli). We rented a row boat and went out about 200 yards to find a vast roman city in only 12 feet of water. You can see the outline of the house walls that were worn down by the waves. I saw full mosaic floors under broken debris of pottery, marble and roman building material. From the website of the park, I see that now it has been declared a national park.
