I Want My Mummies ! Apr 30, 2015
Admission : (2015 April) HRK 20 for permanent exhibits. HRK 20 for special exhibits.
Say whaaaat ? Would you believe they have a nice collection of Egyptian artifacts including half a dozen or more sarcophagi on permanent display.
The top floor is the recommended starting point. Starts with pre-history items like bits of stone tools, jugs, bones & pots. It gradually moves to the coins and more complicated tools. The ornaments also increase in complexity and beauty.
It also has on display Roman and Greek age artifacts like currency, pottery, decorative ornaments, glassware, armour and weapons.
The big surprise is the collection of Egyptian artifacts. There are so many little statues and items, usually museums would showcase these individually in glass cases. Here, there are so many that they are lined up in rows like toy soldiers. lol
Material is largely from the Ptolemaic period including bronze statuettes of deities, sarcophagi, along with several papyrus manuscripts with writings from the Book of the Dead.
Yup, buddy.. all the stuff you need to raise your very own mummy from the beyond.
The Zagreb mummy, as it is known, is showcased here. It was rather dark and my camera couldn't handle it. Just as well, there may have been some scary stuff lurking in the shadows that I didn't know about.
There was an exhibition from the Iberian period as well. For those who are interested, you can always visit the museum website and check out the photos and reference the material.
I hope they fix the lighting or add in new lights for the numismatic section on the ground floor. The coins are in nice displays but it is rather too dark to see them clearly.
* I didn't hang around like Ben Stiller did, to see if the exhibits woke up at night.
