This arch has been around for a couple of thousand years in Pula, and was built to honour three locals who belonged to the Sergii family. During Roman times, one of them commanded a battalion for Mark Anthony and I suspect that the arch commemorates his service as well as the Roman power in the area. These days, it’s more of an ornament that graces central Pula, fairly near to the Roman amphitheatre and en route to the temple of Augustus. I thought the carvings and intricacy on the arch were rather nice, and together with its historic significance, I think the arch deserves a few minutes of anybody’s time!
