Aram hotel Boeun-gun Reviews
Perfect scene for Korean horror movie Oct 12, 2014
N36°31.935 E127°49.332 We arrived at the express/intercity bus terminal of Songnisan NP in August 2014. The main street divides this tourist town in two distinctive areas. Behind the Main Street on the right restaurants and behind it on the left minbaks, motels and hotels.
August is off-season for Songnisan - until the leaves change colours - and it looked like a beach resort in the winter until the tourist hordes reappear again. However, there is an underlining problem. Soon we noticed derelict and closed motels. Some vandalised. Question of oversupply?
Our motel of choice was strangely fully booked for the second night. Alternative was the Aram Hotel. It stands in a block of three hotels before the bridge to the park entrance on the right. The Songnisan Park Hotel already is a ruin and an unknown hotel appealing for non-existing buyers before falling victim to demolition.
The silver letters in the entree looked promising but we noticed no lighting beyond the reception. The hotel felled cold and empty. The dark restaurant looked creepy. We asked the owner to see some rooms. These gave us the impression nobody stayed here for a long time. We noticed long hollow dark hallways and leaking plumbing. Perfect setting for a Korean horror movie. In a hurry, we left this hotel. Not recommended.
