Araluen Botanical Park - The Singing Water Aug 13, 2011
Araluen Botanical Park is located about 35 km , southeast of Perth, in Darling Range. The precise address is 362 Croyden Road Roleystone, WA. It is open daily (all year long) from 9am to 6pm. Entry fee applies, but for very cheap amount of 4 AUD / adult. Araluen, an Aboriginal word means ‘singing water’ or ‘running water’, or ‘place of lilies’, was originally owned privately, and established for holiday camp (1929) . Later on (1990’s), the state government purchased it based on local community encouragement.

There are many varieties of plants, especially flowers, from different places around the world. Some of which was brought back and planted by the previous owner J.J.Simons during his trip overseas and interstates. Near the entry gate (also the place to pay the entry fee), visitors can obtain the map of the walking trails. Wheelchairs and electric scooters are available for rent. Not too far from the main entrance is the vast lawn area equipped with BBQ facilities. There is a special train within the park as well, during certain hours (mostly for the amusement of the kids). There is also gift shop and café inside the park. The best time to visit the place is around September, when the flowers start to blossom at the spring time. The botanical park is relatively small compared to the one in Kings Park, so it takes an hour or so to explore most of the corners.
