My favorite hangout in Byron Oct 25, 2011
I loved the Aquarius Hostel. It was located mere steps away from some awesome shopping spots as well as a close walking distance from the amazing Main Beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable and many of the first floor rooms provided a small outdoor patio which was fenced in and included trees, a table, and an ash tray for smoking residents. All of the rooms were accessible through a very safe and well lit parking area located very close to the bar, kitchen, lobby and laundry facilities ( all of which could not have had friendlier attendants).

They also had a fix-it-yourself kitchen, for those not dining in the cafe, with enough room to accomodate anyone who might be in need of it. Here, I am sad to say, is where I have to report the kitchen's very unfortunate roach problem. You were most likely safe while using the stove or sinks but it was near impossible to use the community microwave without waiting in drawn out agony as your food cooked, pretending not to see them dancing between the plastic sheaths of the microwave's door. Let me also point out that this was surly do to peoples' ignorance concerning the "Ten Commandments" of the kitchen which were posted in various spots to promote cleanliness and cooperation throughout and WAS NOT a problem in the hostel's cafe, bar, or restaraunt areas.

Speaking of the cafe, bar, and restaraunt; they serve delicious food. Best of all, if you are guest at the Aquarius you receive a free meal in the bar area with your stay (helping you to avoid the other kitchen altogether). I also strongly suggest ordering the cafe's pancakes in the morning. As for the bar, I have seen no better happy hour sales. However, you are able to get quite a tall (and potent) glass of Jungle Juice at any hour for the low price of three dollars, which is unheard of. My advice is to grab a round quickly before they run out, which they often do (understandably).

If you're looking for something to do with this new found inebriation, the bar offers Karaoke and a very lively game of Group Scattegories(funniest answer wins) as well as pool tournaments and a highly entertaining series of competetive games between roommates throughout the entire hostel. The activities in the bar change nightly but these were the ones which I experienced firsthand/ participated in.

Even if you are staying elsewhere, stop in at Aquarius.

Close to the beach in byron Feb 06, 2011
This backpackers is nice and close to the beach and easy to find.

They give you free dinner every night you stay that is very helpfull for people that cant cook like me.

was $25 a night for a 8 person dorm it was nice and big so you had space to put all your bags.

had a balcony area, and its own kitchen insted of one to share between the whole hostel.

this was very good considering i paid the same price at the arts factory and that did not have dinner included & bathroom in each room.

i would recommend this place for some where affordable and average place to stay.

wasent the cleanest but for how many people were there it was.

also not very secure with no place to lock anything up.
