Aquarius Backpackers Byron Bay Reviews
Decent budget accommodation in the heart of Byron Feb 09, 2014
Location: It's very well situated in Byron. It's a short 2 minute walk to the main beach and right in the heart of Byron, but far enough away from the main strip so as to be quiet for those wanting a lie in. It's clean, well maintained, has a friendly staff of locals and backpackers. I've been there 4 times now and always had great service. You got a free meal and drink voucher which was a bonus :)
The rooms: I always took a double room off the dorms of 8 as they had a ceiling fan and was a lot better having that and sharing a bathroom (very clean and new by the way) with others than the "separate doubles" above the main reception which had poor fans and air-con.
Fun: always something going on at the hostel every night with drinks offers, entertainment and cheaper drinks before heading out to the main bars and Cheeky Monkeys - a staple of those travelling to Byron.
Car-park: not many people drive into Byron by their own transport as it was majority backpackers so I could always find space for my 4x4. Safe, secure, and with 24 security.
Cost: I was working full-time but always enjoyed my time at Aquarius so never felt the need to look elsewhere. Choice to try other hostels and hotels was the choice of another. Good off-peak cost and peak times could be reduced by staying for longer. It's Byron, staying a day would not do it justice.
Places to visit: the lighthouse, secluded beaches, eastern most point in Australia, dolphin kayaks, Tayagarah tea tree lakes (10 minute drive outside of Byron), the local shops and boutiques - all worth seeing.
A great mix of backpackers, the hip, the wealthy, the laid-back atmosphere always has people coming back for more. It's definitely a place to go visit and Aquarius is perfect as a base to see it.
