AQUA Wellness Resort Aug 03, 2014
AQUA Wellness resort is a boutique hotel where people usually go for yoga retreat or to enjoy seclusion. We were located in the beautiful houses on the stilts hanging on the steep hill sloping towards the beach cove this place is famous for. Whole resort is exclusive area fenced and protected with armed guards standing all over the place. It was a bit strange to see armed guys looking at you and trying to figure out if you are OK by them. Smile and acknowledgment usually do the work with these types so use it as a frontal defense tactic…
So, our “nest” was high above ground, nicely made modern wooden building just above three line which allowed for really great view. Room was nice with everything you need, bed is just perfect.
Whole place is connected with small bridges and paths that don’t disturb the nature and look amazing. The nicest part of the house was small square pool that rises up from the hills slope and ends on our terrace. Very well done and very enjoyable!
The biggest gem of this place is a surreal beautiful private beach that spans over whole bay. It is also a nesting area for many turtles and if you are around during nesting season that starts in summer and can last to December. There are bunch of chairs and sun shades on the beach. Sea is not too rough because the bay breaks the waves. Bottom is mostly sandy but there are large rocks here and there which can make some serious damage to your feet. Nice simple showers are there to take that salt of your body.
Beach is edged with huge boulders and smaller bays and caverns. If you are feeling adventurous, you could climb all over and find your meditation or chilling spot.
There is a restaurant in the complex and that is pretty much your only option for food. Prices are high, but food is great. If you are into food that is different then what they offer on the menu, they can prepare most of the vegan or vegetarian meals. Small bar area makes good cocktails and they can do many mixes of fresh fruit juices from the area.
Yoga is big thing here with many westerners doing it very religiously. Large and beautiful yoga platform has incredible views and it is just right for any kind of meditation or practice. It is located on the slope and therefore has nice wind chilling you down on the hot Nicaraguan days.
Nicaraguan coast is very scarcely populated and it is not that easy to move around. There are some buses, but you will require your own transportation if you want to have any kind of freedom. Most of the nicest areas are fenced off and made into resorts, private compounds and even a golf course. These are in sharp contrast with how Nicaraguan people live in the area. Most of the small villages are living solely on fish and maybe some agriculture. Stay was excellent but the people that come there are not the kind that I can enjoy my time with.
