Aptera Hotel Reviews
Aptera Hotel Apr 05, 2009
I have decided to write a brief review for Aptera Hotel at Aptera Apokoronou in Chania, in order to clear the confusion that some visitors might have when searching for this hotel online.
First of all the hotel has taken its name from the ancient city of Aptera which is just a few minutes away from the hotel. The ancient city of Aptera is one of the most important ancient cities in Crete, equal in status to Knossos and Festos. The hotel was previously known as Aptera Lodge, but recently after having its license upgraded into a two star hotel by the Greek Organization of Tourism (EOT) it has been renamed as Aptera Hotel. The hotel consists of 11 self catering apartments, with spacious rooms and cooking facilities. All apartments have balconies, some with sea view, some with mountain view and aircondition comes as standard in all apartments. On the ground floor of the hotel you will find a small reception and a Café for breakfast, coffees, drinks, etc. If you would like to keep an eye on the news there is a satellite TV in the Café as well as free internet access via WiFi. Unfortunately, there is no swimming pool at the hotel but being just five minutes drive from the nearest beach (Kalami) that is not a big issue. It is highly advisable to rent a car during your stay at Aptera Hotel as currently there is no public transportation going through the village. Without a car you will have to rely on taxis. However there are three very good tavernas just 10 minutes walk from the hotel as well as a mini market and a small Cafe. The accommodation is priced reasonably, you can find yourself saving a small fortune if you book early or if you book on low season. Last summer there were apartments and studios available for rent around 40 to 30 Euros a night in May and September. That is for the whole apartment not per person!! Aptera Hotel is suitable for those who would like to relax during their holidays away from the crowds and the noisy nightlife. For those who prefer to go off the beaten track and if you like traditional Cretan village atmosphere you can not really go wrong with choosing Aptera for your holidays. Please note there is also an Aptera Hotel in Heraklion (Amoudara). So when you search online for this hotel make sure that you search for Aptera Hotel at Aptera Apokoronou in Chania. Full postal address is: Aptera Hotel: Aptera, Apokoronou, Chania, Crete Greece GR 73003 GPS 35 27'47".27N 24 08'01".41E The website of the hotel is: http://www.aptera-lodge.com/ The website of the ancient city of Aptera is: http://www.just-crete.co.uk/ |

We were tired and wanted to go to our hotel to hit the sack. Usually we go by public transport but since it was so late we entered a taxi (way too expensive) which drove us to Hotel Ufer in downtown Düsseldorf. After checking in we felt in our beds and slept immediately… Our last day in Crete :( and I haven't been to one ancient place. Hehehe, Aptera here we come :) |
