Excellent American diner full with Appalachian thru hikers Mar 28, 2014
N45°39.407' W68°42.544' Mt Katahdin may be the official finish of the 2179-mile Appalachian Trail, but no thru hiker leaves without visiting the Appalachian Trail Café on Highland avenue in Millinocket. Besides leaving their “call sign” on ceiling tiles with their classmates, they show of their beards (men only) and tell stories about endured hardship during months of walking from Georgia tot Maine. They may steal the show, but the actual heroes are the women running this café/diner. They serve excellent breakfast meals, whatever you want, with a smile. Fresh coffee is never far away. The combination of nice food and guests with great stories creates a unique atmosphere. We loved it in August 2013. Very recommended.

Fantastic place to eat! Aug 16, 2011
The Appalachian Trail Cafe in Millinocket was a place I wanted to visit once I knew I was staying just south of Millinocket in Jo-Mary Campground. I must say that I was not disappointed. The cafe is small, but has A LOT of charm. The staff was extremely friendly and seemed to really enjoy working there. The food was excellent and very inexpensive. I ordered a Chocolate Donut (They are cake donuts) and a Cinnamon Roll. To my surprise, my doughnut may have been the biggest cake doughnut I have ever seen, not in terms of width, but height. It was also very tasty, my Cinnamon Roll was amazing. Everyone in the restaurant was talking about how good the food was. After my meal I looked up and saw something pretty cool. People who have completed the Appalachian Trail Cafe sign their names on ceiling tiles.

This place has everything you need, great food at a great price and a whole lot of character. Definitely a must stop if you are in Maine!
