Aphrodite´s Rock Reviews
The beach of the Goddess of Love May 17, 2013
Aphrodite´s Rock (Petra tou Romiou) is another tourist attraction. According to the legend this is Aphrodite´s birthplace (the goddess of love and beauty). Petra tou Romiou, a rock off the shore along the main road from Paphos to Limassol, has been regarded since ancient times as the birthplace of Aphrodite, goddess of love and fertility.
A restaurant, a tourist pavilion and the Aphrodite Hills resort are nearby. You can find the Sanctuary of Aphrodite in kouklia, Old Paphos.
Back to Aphrodite´s Rock. If you go there by car, you can park at the little cafe and walk down the steps to the left of the cafe itself. You walk through a tunnel shoulder width under the road and as you emerge onto the beach you will find the beauty of the rock formation against the wonderful blue of the sea. Amazing!
The beach itself is pebble and the water is cold despite the heat of the sun, but it is a good opportunity to cool off in a terribly hot weather. There is a legend that if you swim around the rock three times you will have eternal youth. There is also a myth that a person who swims around the Aphrodite Rock will be blessed with eternal beauty.
