Modern comfortable place to stay - if a little pricey Mar 25, 2010
Elegant, sleek and contemporary. Three words to sum up this classy hotel in the centre of London. A definite must if you’re looking for somewhere a little above the rest. In my honest opinion I would say this place is geared more towards the business traveller. For what you get, Its not exactly the cheapest of places to stay, but if you want to impress your partner with your nose for a good upmarket hotel, look no further. Definitely worth a stay if you have the money to spare, but I wouldn’t recommend if you just want somewhere to lay your head come end of the day.

Location

Right in the financial district of London and no more than 2-4mins walk from Tower Hill Tube station, you’re never far from the action.

Room

I can’t fault the rooms, the rooms here are fantastic. Everything has a very modern feel; the rooms are spacious, fresh and ooze a unique type of elegance.

Bathroom

Again, delightful, clean and with more than enough space to throw a cow.

Pros:-

Top of its class, very aesthetically pleasing.

Situated in a safe area, very close to a tube station.

Cons:-

A little pricey, for what paid I would expect a masseuse to be thrown in.

New Years 2005-6 I treated myself to a stay here. It was brilliant - it is a push your boat out sort of occasion, but for a special night, not bad at all. Actually, the internet rate at the weekend was around £70 which is really good for the quality.

Location

About a block from the tower of London, in the financial city, about half an hours walk to Trafalgar square, and about an hours happy wander back... So on the weekend, a lot of the restaurants nearby are shut because it's a business district but you can get into the middle easily.

Room

By British standards, huge. There is a fantastic bathroom with the taps midway up the bath, it's a gorgeous decoration scheme, and the larger rooms have sofas. ANd it's comfy. I loved it.

The toiletries were lovely, and this is where I adopted my plastic duck, crispy fried. He has an advert for Apex on his tummy, so I assume they didn't mind him coming with me.

Breakfast

Very expensive - I'd skip that bit

Staff.

Put it this way - when I stumbled in, visibly drunk, propped up on a friend, and clutching a bunch of night club roses, and asked for a vase, they sent one up to my room with their compliments and a smile, straightfaced. Within a few minutes. ANd didn't even snigger when I answered the door in a towel, having forgotten all about it.

They were second only to the one in York where I asked for some ice - having fallen off my heels dancing and bust my ankle - and they sent a porter up with a bucket of ice, a cloth, two plastic bags, and a big smile. I just need to remember what the one in York was called! Am I looking like a bit of a drunk? I hope not...
