Apent Bakerei Oslo Reviews
Fresh Bread, Jam Pots and Pastries Jun 07, 2011
Eating out in Oslo is a luxury as prices are high. To keep my costs down, I frequented bakeries for meals and my favorite is Apent Bakerei in west Oslo. Packed with locals, Apent Bakerei is a bread lover's dream.
This bakery sells muffins, cream-filled pastries, raisin danishes, cinnamon rolls (one of my favorites to carry on trains or boats), croissants and fresh breads. An absolute must is a pot of strawberry jam (known as jordbar syltetoy) which can be lathered on breads. A large bowl of this amazing jam sits on a sideboard with individual glass jars for each guest. The strawberry taste is incredibly smooth and addicting. It's hard to stop eating it.
Apent Bakerei offers several coffee options as well, some served in large bowls. Guests will be asked whether they prefer hot or cold milk in their coffee. Prices for coffee range roughly 20-25 NOK, while breads and pastries range 25-42 NOK. While these prices may seem high, these seemed to be standard prices for the bakeries I visited in Oslo.
Gifts are also available including olive oil, sea salt, spreads and cookbooks.
Apent's interior is warm and inviting with simple wooden chairs and tables, as well as local artwork on the walls. If the weather is nice, there is a leafy patio outside to relax, while greedy sparrows eye your bread.
This bakery is popular and lines begin forming as soon as it opens. Anyone from workers to children going to school around the corner will be in line waiting for the delicious baked goods.
Apent Bakerei is one way of keeping your budget in check in Norway and an Oslo taste-treat that should not be missed.
