Explore Caves in Washington State! Jun 18, 2010
Ape Cave is a fun do-it-yourself cave off of Mt. St. Helens in Gifford Pinchot National Park. There are two paths- difficult and easy. I took the difficult path, which meant there were many rock climbing places (not straight walls of rocks, just loads of rocks in the pathway you must climb over) and it slowly ascends. If you are really into exploring, it will take about 3 hours to complete this path.

It's very cheap (except for the gas to get there) at just $5 per car. This cave is great for people with little or no caving experience, as it is basically just a straight path- you don't have to crawl through tiny tubes or anything, but you must be able to climb and maneuver in order to do the difficult path.

And *please* be respectful of the cave. The disappointing thing was the trash we found inside the cave as well as people writing their names on the wall. Fortunately it wasn't enough to totally ruin the experience, but it was enough to notice. Don't be that person.
