Met room mates Serena, Graham, Toby and Julia, most of whom were getting up at 4am the next morning. Went out to party until way too late. Met interesting Guatemalan at the afterparty who is studying Neuroscience at Stanford. Graham and Toby missed bus in the morning. 22 Dec 2007 Hangover and recovery 23 Dec 2007 Chill out

Hello,First sorry prob gonna have some mistakes in this cause i am using a very old and sticky keyboard and i cant spell!Right so i left guatemala city as soon as i could as i didnt feel very safe, and got on a local bus to antigua.  That was so much more fun than english buses! The bus was an old american school bus painted up, and the driver was made.  There is also a conductor dude that jumps of the bus randomly and tries to force people on.  The driver doesnt really slow do…

La Antigua
posted by:

Against my will we took transportes rebuli to get to Antigua. It was suppose to be a pullman service, however, they would still stop to get and drop off more passengers. Although, I have to admit, the seats were a bit more comfortable and the luggage was safer under the bus. The people selling the tickets at the office were so mean and even seemed to be mad because I was asking questions like, "when does the bus leave?" I mean, jezzz. I will not recommend this bus company, it's awful! We got …

Waking up in Antigua, Guatemala
posted by:
Dec 09, 1995 - Dec 14, 2008
Week Four: The following week was rather routine. Wake up, eat breakfast, wait to take a dump, go to school, come home for lunch, go to school again, come home for dinner, go to cafe' cafe' watch television, drink 2 beers, come home and go to bed. Except Thursday night....... (This is the end of my notes from this trip, written at least a decade before the term "Blog" was coined. In fact, it was written on a clunky 286 portable computer that booted up with DOS 3.0 on…

Went to the volcano Pacaya.  Our group left at 6am on the dot. I recommend Andrenaline Tours, it was only $2 more than the other operators (so $10), but the guy they set us up with was prompt and we were the first tour group at the volcano which was great!  The reason is that there are no big groups of people in front of you slowing you down (cause later in the day there were hundreds)  Anyway, it was a decent walk up, took about 45 minutes through forest to get to the last lav…

Lovely Antigua....O o O
posted by:

Locals are for the most part nice.  There is a lot of so called "Expatriates".  I see why so many people has fallen in love with this place.  Picture a nice, decent size oddly shaped square.  Add a dash of honey (hot locals and travelers alike), sprinkle a little lightning bolt (fun nightlife/bars/clubs/coffee spots), throw in a handful of culture and originality and you have got Antigua! The surroundings is fairly safe.  Just exercise basic common sense and you will…

Our study program closed with a stay in Guatemala. We soaked up the beauty of a land simply saturated in color, and I swear that the physical labor required by our service project on an organic coffee farm was the most healing activity I've ever shared.

So we made it to Guate... after surpsing Lisa at LAX with a quick Mimosa toast to our trip we got to our gate for a quick 5 hr flight to Guatemala City. We landed around 7am and easily made our way through immigration. Somehow we missed the tourist info desk and found ourselves outside with a million cab drivers offering a ride... we were looking to go more of the mini bus (group of people) route to Antigua. So after speaking with a police officer we stumbled upon a guy who had just th…
