This has been one of my greatest trips so far, in the sense of discovering such variety of beauty and many attractions. It was a very comfortable trip, not adventurous since everything was well planned in advance. In a short week i could see most of the interesting places in Guatemala and as Belize is close by we decided just to follow the road and end up in Belize City.

What a crazy and unforgettable experience we had here! Well, the actual visit of Antigua went ok. As usual, got around to seeing every corner of the town. It’s your typical colonial town, very pretty, with lovely architecture all over the place, churches, and lots of ruins here and there.
One difference though, here if you wanna climb an active volcano, you can! Nearby, you have, as the locals call them, El Volcán de Agua and El Volcán de Fuego.&nbs…

Decidedly happy to be done with my third year of medical school, I decided it was time to get back on the international travel scene. I only had 10 days, and my trip was rushed, but I managed to hit a few of the highlights that this amazing country has to offer. Enjoy!!

We took it easy the next day in Antigua, exploring the city's ruins and sidestreets.
Antigua used to be the capital of Guatemala before it was hit by a series of earthquakes. The city is dotted with old buildings, both ruined and well-preserved. The square in the center of town is surrrounded by stately colonial structures, and has nice benches to relax in.
The weekend we were in town, there was some kind of festival going on, with bands and free food under the famous arch. Later, they had…

Samana Santa: Heilige week!
Ik heb wel even genoeg Jezus en Maria beelden gezien voor een hele lange tijd! Wat een gekke week is Samana Santa! Eerlijk gezegd had ik er nog nooit van gehoord van te voren dus het was voor mij een c…

Having never peared into a live Volcano before, we decided to undertake an adventure up Volcon Pacaya, an active Volcano just south of Antigua. Initally we were a bit put off of reports that the climb was "fairly difficult" and lets face it we're not exactely "fairly fit".
To say that it was a walk in the park would be a dead out lie, but through grit and determination (and lots of rest breaks and chest pains) we made it. We were allowed to walk onto the lava flo…

I left the US with a roundtrip ticket out of Cancun on a 3 week trip. I ended up on a five week trip, flying home from Mexico City with a flight to Cuba and more bus rides than I can count thru Central America. I did not want to come home when I didddd, but life called. I hiked volcanoes, 3 sets of mayan ruins, was surrounded by dolphins, went to Fidel Castro and Che Guevara's child hood homes, learned to Salsa, met lifelong friends and so many other things I don't have time or room to list.
