Worth passing by! Nov 12, 2010
Although this building is now part of the local university, this used to be an old tobacco factory of epic proportion and used to provide employment to a significant amount of the local people. It is also very famous as the workplace for Carmen, the heoine in Bizet’s opera.

The building is very classical and it is possible to enter the building for free. I only took a quick look at it, so I don’t know if you can take an exhaustive tour of the building by yourself. When I was there, there were no tourists around and mainly students who were passing through. But as it must be one of the most iconic buildings which have made Sevilla famous, I just had to visit the place to say I had been there.

The building is situated in between Sevilla Cathedral and the Maria Luisa park. Therefore, there is a very big chance that you’ll pass the building, so it really can’t be a bad idea just to pop in for a few minutes!

I'm going to Carmen tonight. I felt exactly the same when I saw it.
