Deception Island is an island in the South Shetland Islands off the Antarctic Peninsula which has one of the safest harbours in Antarctica. During the briefing last night Martni had told us that there was much more pack ice then normal this year and we might not reach the Antartic peninsular. At 03:15 Martins voice came over the speakers explaining that we could not get forther south because of all the pack ice... It was sad news but it was expected. Some of us went up on the bridge and had a look on the maps to see where we were. We had tried to get through the pack ice on 2 places but there was just too much ice and set course ...
