Anglet Overview

Anglet is a sleepy, residential beach town located in the shadows of the more cosmopolitan Biarritz and Bayonee, the largest city in the Basque Region of France.

Probably the only reason to travel here is for the surf. Anglet boasts some of the most consistent and best beach breaks in the world, and during the non-summer months it is relatively uncrowded. During winter, the waves are powerful, the currents are strong and the water is cold.

There is a small boardwalk along the beach filled with a few outdoor restaurants and surf shops. Surf culture is prevalent herread moree, and the surf shops here are almost indistinguishable from any you might find in California.

Unfortunately, many of the breaks are located near the mouth of river jetty that France uses to dump tons of waste products, and the water can be incredibly polluted. Efforts are underway to clean up this region, but caution is advised, especially after rainfall.
