Good quality of Chinese food in Jakarta Jan 18, 2011
Looking for a good Chinese food to satisfy your hunger? You should try Restoran Angke; a Chinese Restaurant established more than forty years ago. It is pretty famous among the first and second generation of Chinese people in Jakarta.

It has two locations: Kelapa Gading (North Jakarta) and Ketapang (West Jakarta). We went to their first establishment at Ketapang (021-6343030) and amazed to see how packed the restaurant was on a Sunday night. Yup, people come here for the good food!

The sauce that Restoran Angke used is different than other Chinese restaurants that mostly only used oyster sauce and tasted the same. We ordered seven dishes: Lindung cah fumak (fried eel with vegetable), mun saklon (frog), ikan tahu tausi (fried fish and tofu with tausi (fermented black bean)), udang goreng mentega (margarine sauced fried shrimp), ayam goreng mentega (margarine sauced fried chicken), sapo tahu seafood (sapo seafood with tofu) and mie goreng (fried noodle).

The lindung cah fumak (fried eel with vegetable) and the mun saklon (frog) were actually their best sellers. For some people, the idea of eating eel and frog was a little gross because of the smell and things. However, they cooked and presented the dishes so well that the fishy smell was not there at all. They had their own special spices: angkak merah (fermented brown rice) added to the dishes that made the lindung cah fumak and the mun saklon tasted better. On top of it, the angkak merah is actually a nutritious spice that is believed is good to fight the cholesterol.

The portion of the dishes was also pretty generous, we were a group of eleven and we needed to take out some of the dishes because we were too full to finish all by the end of the dinner.

Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner experience.

Restoran Angke also offered facility such as VIP rooms and function halls in both locations.
