Very Central Location. Jan 25, 2017
We stayed in the Andrews Hotel on Post Street for six nights.

To get there from the airport we took the BART to Powell Street Station. From there you can walk up Powell Street till you come to Union Square. Post Street is opposite Union Square. When you reach Post Street, go left and walk for about three blocks.

Check in was friendly and efficient. We arrived an hour or so before official check-in time, but were allowed in straight away. The receptionist gave us a free city map. The hotel is a historical one. At one time it used to be a bath house. It has been nicely restored. It has an old fashioned lift with a sliding gate type door.

Our room was on the seventh floor. It was clean and comfortable. There was a large closet, a dressing table with drawers, a comfortable bed, TV. chairs. We did not have a fridge or a safe, though safety deposit boxes were available at reception.

The bathroom had a bath with attached shower. For me it was not small like other reviewers said, just a strange shape.

Breakfast was served to each floor of the hotel in the morning. It consisted of coffee, tea, orange juice, bread, cakes, butter, jam. You can either take it to the hotel lobby or to your room. We always ate in our room.

The hotel provided free teas and coffees in the lobby all day. I really liked that.

The hotel has an Italian Restaurant called Finos. Hotel guests can get a free glass of wine from there each evening. We were never back in time to get this, but it is a nice idea. We would have liked to try the restaurant, but it was always busy and we chose not to book it as we never knew when we would be back.

There were lots of restaurants near the hotel. It was also in an excellent location for transport such as buses and cable cars. There were lots of shops nearby, too.

The only downside of the hotel was it was a bit noisy at night. I assume this would be true of any centrally located hotel. The noise was traffic and people going up and down the street. After a couple of nights I began to just sleep through it.

Free wifi was provided at this hotel and the signal was consistently strong throughout our stay.

Check out was quick, efficient and friendly. I would very happily stay here again.

Andrews Hotel Overview

The Andrews Hotel is a charming, European-style hotel centrally located in San Francisco's renowned theater and shopping districts. Our small size -- just 48 guestrooms -- allows our friendly and courteous front desk staff to give you individual attention. Citysearch Voted the Andrews hotel 'Best hotel staff' 2006.

The building at 624 Post Street was completed in 1905 just before the great earthquake on April 18, 1906. Because it was built as a Class a structure, completely supported by a steel frame, it suffered little damage. However, the fire that engulfed the city after the quake did some damage to the lobby and restaurant.

After being repaired the following November for $38,000, the building assumed its planned role as the Sultan Turkish Baths, a gentlemen's bath and relaxation establishment. The large electric sign on the roof announced its arrival on Post Street. As a full service business, the Sultan Baths featured a restaurant on the ground floor. The next level housed a salt-water plunge, tiled hot room, and a rubbing room. On the third floor one could find a barber, chiropodist, and a bar and lounge. The fourth and fifth floors featured small sleeping rooms and a steam room. Finally, on floors six and seven, one could rent one of several small apartments, each containing a bedroom and a parlor. Rumor has it that, at one time, the establishment had a rather unsavory reputation.

Thank you for choosing the Andrews hotel for your visit to San Francisco. For the comfort and security of all hotel guests on New Year's Eve, parties or excessive noise will not be allowed in our guestrooms. Please be advised that non-registered guests will not be permitted beyond the lobby. Additional guests will not be added to the reservation at time of check-in.

You'll be asked to stop by the reception desk to obtain a security bracelet before leaving for the evening (one bracelet per registered guest). Our Staff will be on duty to assist you for the evening. Only guests with bracelets will be allowed access to the guest elevators and the guestrooms; there will be no exceptions. Please note that once the bracelet is on, it can only be removed by cutting it off.

We strongly suggest that you do not plan on using your vehicle for New Year's Eve. Due to the holiday, we are expecting traffic gridlock. If you choose to utilize your in-and-out valet privileges, a minimum of one-hour notification will be required. Parking will be available only for registered guests at $38.00 on New Year's Eve and $33.00 on all other nights. Parking is subject to 15.5% parking tax.

On New Year's Eve, Fino Ristorante will be serving dinner with their regular menu from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.

On New Year's Day, Fino's will be closed. The front desk staff will be happy to assist with New Year's Day dinner reservations at other restaurants.

The staff and management of The Andrews Hotel wish you a safe and happy New Year.
