Andaman and Nicobar Islands Overview

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands in the Bay of Bengal and known as a Union Territory of India. Among 556 islands/islets in this region only 37 are inhabited by human beings with total population of around 356,256 (2001 census). There are two groups of islands in this territory named Andaman Islands and Nicobar Islands with their common capital being Port Blair. Apart from the aborigines the region has gone through mainly three regimes: British Colonial Rule, Japanese Invasion and finally Indian Government.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are famous for their tropical weather, spectacular beaches, marine lives, water activities, dense forest, and rich wildlife. The only regional airport that runs flights to and fro mainland India is, Veer Savarkar Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair. Another way of transport to this place is by sea. There are three ports in the mainland from where ships are sailed to Port Blair few times a week.
