Ancient Zumit Hotel & Restaurant Tripoli Reviews
a breeze of genuine orient from the ottoman era Jul 29, 2010
My last evening in Libya Salem showed me Ancient Zumit Hotel & Restaurant. The building is from the ottoman era in Libya (1551 - 1711) and was used as an inn and meeting place for traders who were used to move between Europe, northern Africa and sub-Sahara countries. They were coming from the south in camel caravans, with goods to the harbour that was shipped to other places in the ottoman empire and elsewhere around the Mediterenean sea.
The fourstar hotel has 10 rooms and 4 suites around the huge inner room. My next visit in Tripoli I would like to spend a night or two in this magnificant and amazing building. About all this you can read more in their website.
The restaurant is specialized in traditional seafood. Later that evening a big party entered celebrating an anniversary. This is the place celebrating wedding anniversaries, birthdays, and of course wedding dinners. They have a lot of these events.
It was traditionally furnished with hand made pieces and it is still very traditional oriental and I had a special sense and feeling of the genuine arabic orient mixed with some Turkish flavours.
As you can see of my photos I took some seafood and fish. It is further described by the pictures.
It was beautifully served and tasted just delicious.
