At the heart of the Action! Oct 10, 2014
We picked this hotel mainly because of its location. Its located at the heart of where the action is! That is to say, its located at the start point of the night market and it is also in front of the Monk alms offerings pick-up point.

Our room was located at level 3 (Royal Room), this hotel is relatively small so no lift. There is no bell boy to pick up your luggage either. I would say this is a very "casual hotel" in the sense that the staff are not dressed up like your usual hotel staff. They wear polo shirts and whatever pants they wish. I guess Luang Prabang is still in the opening up to tourism mode so hotel staff are still having problem understanding English language and not so keen to serve you as compared to Thai hotel staff maybe? But they are definitely not rude, more like in experience and scared to answer a foreigner (i believe).

So with this fantastic location, comes also the down part:

1. noise from the street in the morning (taxi, tuk-tuk, motor cycles).

2. The law prohibit business after 12 am. So theres no bars to be producing this noise except for some thoughtless tourist who had bought beer and hold on to it and sit in the street opposite our hotel and keep shouting at each other at 2 am in the morning, the 3 nights we were there.

3. you will hear the humming sound of temple bell for the Buddhist monks making their way to collect alms in the morning at 6 am. I can just pop into my balcony to snap pictures of them without coming down.

Oh yes, the complimentary breakfast is wonderful! There are 3 options to choose (NO buffet) and I loved it. The best fruit salad muesli offering i ever got at a hotel and huge portion. Theres a bakery in the hotel which serves very yummy muffins and chocolate brownies. Many tourist from other hotel also come to our hotel's bakery for breakfast and to buy the pastries.

And the hotel was fully booked too!

Fantastic location Apr 28, 2010
Before we picked this hotel, I have been reading about the great location of this hotel. It is a tiny 12 rooms, 3 stories hotel that located in the heart of Luang Prabang. In the morning, there is a Hmong market opposites the hotel and local wet market by the side of the hotel. At night, the whole road turned to be a night market. It is also walking distance to the National Museum (formal Royal Palace), Mount Phousi, and Mekong River is just 2 blocks away! There are numbers of restaurants, massage places along the road. Basically we just walked to anywhere. OK, we did need a car to go to some of the Wat (temples)

The hotel lobby was just a table with the 12 Chinese Zodiac sign behind. The room keys are chained to those wooden sign that made this hotel quite unique. I do have one complain though, there were no air condition in the lobby. We had to check out 12pm but our pick up was scheduled at 3pm. We left our bags at the hotel and went out for lunch. They do not have a luggage storage area, when we came back from lunch, our bags were next to the check in table where everyone who can lay their hands on it. There were 2 hours to kill, it was hot outside, therefore we decided not to walk anywhere but stay inside the hotel lobby. Without the air condition and 41C outside, this made us very uneasy. Now I really appreciate those hotels that have air condition in the lobby. It made such a different!

There were no room numbers; it was represented by the 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs. Our room was Horse. We had to go up to the room by wooden stairs though, no elevator for guest, therefore it may not be suitable for disable people.

The room was clean and bigger then the one we had in Hanoi. A private balcony that overlooking to the Hmong market was one of the features I like about this hotel. The air condition worked fine (Thank God, believe me, you need air conditional at 41C) although they had power failure but it took only a minute or two and the power went back on. There are lots of windows that make the room very bright during the day, which is what I really like! The windows consist of 3 layers. One is mosquito net and glasses and the other one was wooden door. We had the wooded door opened to get lights from the sun and had the glass window closed so that we could have our air condition turned on.

This hotel has an open concept bathroom. There was no door to the bathtub/shower. The bathtub is right behind the bed. It would be romantic for couples but I think it would be funny for partners/friends. It is romantic but I don’t think it is practical. There was a small glass divider by the side of the bathtub. It will be ok if you take a bath but it was hard to take a shower because the tiny divider is too short and water would still plash out of the area that was uncovered and wet the wooden floor. Although we were assign to an open concept bathroom but I heard there do have so other room with a bathroom door. Luckily there was a door to the toilet. It would be unpleasant in case your partner had some big business to do :P

They have enough amenities that nothing to complain about. A little tiny safe in the room which we never used because it was so light, we could life the whole safe up! We rather left our passport to the reception. Room and bathroom was clean, in fact I think they are too clean that they threw away my mini fan cover…

Bed is softer then what we had in Hanoi. While lying on the bed, we could see people walking on the street and shopping at the market..This was fun to me!

The hotel offers free breakfast, internet access at the lobby and free transfer to the airport. With the price we paid, is definitely value for money, in fact, I think they under charge us!

It was not a buffet breakfast. All they asked was “coffee or tea?” “How you want us to make your egg?” When we wanted sunny side up, they did not understand, however they do have fried egg. We were anticipating what they would bring out, which I think was pretty funny..We had hams, toasts, our sunny side up and local coffee. It was a good breakfast. The restaurant is next to the lobby where they would put out some tables and chairs out of the hotel complex, like a side walk café which is pretty nice!
