Anatolia Cave Pension Goreme Reviews
Best breakfast in Turkey May 04, 2010
The Anatolia Cave Pension is one of the many hotels partially located in caves in the fairy chimneys in Göreme. Bear in mind that staying in a cave is not much more than a gimmick and cave rooms can be a little musty. The general rooms are much lighter and large opening windows will enable you to actually breathe oxygen. This goes for all cave hotels, not just the Anatolia Cave Pension.
The Anatolia Cave Pension has a selection of double and triple rooms, as well as two mixed dorms.
The room I stayed in my first night had been very comfortable, with a large double bed you'd never want to leave. The second night I stayed in a windowless dorm inside the cave, which was a little less comfortable, but decent value, I guess. There is only one shared shower for the two dorms though, so if all beds are full there may be queues in the morning.
The furniture and fittings in the rooms are so decidedly ugly it actually becomes charming. The walls are decorated with a mix of tourist board posters and kilims, while the ceilings in the non-cave rooms have blue styrofoam stalactites. You got to appreciate the effort I guess.
The breakfast is the best I've had in the whole of Turkey. Apart from the usual bread, cheese and cucumber, the buffet comes with a variety of fresh fruits, freshly fried borak (cheese spring-roll) and even baklava!
The courtyard setting of the breakfast area is very pleasant and the free Wi-Fi is an added bonus.
Like all hotels in Göreme the Anatolia Cave Pansiyon can book every possible tour in the area for you. The staff isn't pushy with their tours though and they provide you with honest and balanced advice on the different options available.
