Ananda Fuara is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the heart of San Francisco. The place is utterly charming. Nestled on the corner of Market and Larkin, Ananda Fuara - or "Fountain of Delight" - seems to exist solely to honor and promote spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy. The waitresses all wear saris and no two accents are the same (our server was Australian, for example). The place is small, but cozy and bright. Small, unobtrusive pamphlets on the table share with patrons the impressive biography of Sri Chinmoy, whose sweet, simple paintings adorn the walls. And, of course, the food is good. From the wholegrain pita bread to the creamy milkshakes, every dish is made simply and with obvious quality. One of the best parts about a big city like San Francisco is finding the little restaurants that the tourists don't seem to flock to. Ananda Fuara is one of those places, hidden in plain sight.
