Delicious food Apr 19, 2010
Been around since the 1920s, this is the oldest Indian vegetarian restaurant you will find in Singapore. They have two locations around little India. The range of food here is incredible, focusing on food from the north to the south of India. I came here on two or three occasions. The first time involved ordering a thali which had a great range of curries, soups and rice. Very filling and just the right amount of food too. I also ordered the puri with a potato curry and a chickpea curry on another occasion. Again this was very good and not bad if you don’t have a massive appetite. On the third occasion, I ordered the idli sambhar (little fluffy pancakes made from rice, served with a spicy lentil soup and a coconut based raita). Very delicious indeed. They also have sweets too, which are very good if not limited to the classic range of Indian sweets. Whatever you order, the taste is fantastic and service is quick and efficient. The prices were average too, but I thought it was a little expensive (everything in Singapore seems much more expensive after you’ve backpacked in the cheaper SE Asia countries though). If you’re in Little India, I think this is an excellent and essential pit stop.
