While I wouldn’t throw caution to the wind, I would assert that you don’t need to focus on any specific precautions before heading for Dubai. I am also a male American Caucasian, and felt enormously comfortable the entire time I visited. You will find that Dubai is quite the international melting pot and well over half the population are expats, with a fair number of Caucasians mixing in. My buddy (also an American male Caucasian) has lived there nearly seven years and has never had any issues - at least none he has shared with me.

Dubai is primarily a large tourist city and I met plenty of British, Australian, Canadian, etc. folks working full-time or on vacation here. There are also quite a few Slavs around, so Caucasians abound. It would clearly be different if you were a 24-year old female visiting solo, but being male is insurance that you should be largely ignored.

I expected being an American (male) Caucasian in Dubai to be a non-event, which it was – but what truly surprised me was the welcoming reception I received when we headed out into the rural areas (Oman and the Empty Quarter). Even in these sparsely populated, largely Muslim regions I encountered nothing beyond gracious courtesy. Of course I was careful to be polite in return, but unless you’re planning on being the ultimate ugly American I can only encourage you to go and discover this beauty for yourself!
Hopefully I don't look like I tr

try beirut. its an amazing place despite all the negativity. and lebanese people, although not a melting pot, are extremely genuine in welcoming tourists- i have many friends from the States living there as well... and its a city to fall in love with on many levels.

I can only agree with vances. Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world.
And as long as you're polite yourself nothing will happen to you.
As a tourist you will meet many Pakistani or Indians like in taxi or just while strolling around and they are all very helpful and friendly, and nobody will try to rip you off or something, so no need to worry!
I hope you have a great trip!

…carpet and all of the sudden a few locals where waving at us and all I was thinking about was hey they must think we are four famous americans.  lol then all of the sudden this guy comes up and ask us to get off the red carpet and as we were walking out we thought we saw  super model Elle MacPherson entering the mall with a few body guards… Dubai

American money.   Although we lacked the traditional offering of cookies and milk, he seemed quite satisfied with his choice of fresh fruit (he chose the green apple) and Evian.   He even found our stash of candy canes and hung them on every drawer… Christmas Day in Dubai

Then I was watching a movie on FOX " The American President, with Michael Douglas and Annette Benning. There was a scene where clearly he was about to kiss her in the China room and that scene was cut. The next scene spliced in was them pulling away from each other. Then it referenced it on the next… Censorship, PDA, Hand-holding, Nose touching and possibly kissing?

Many Filipino’s on hand here as well, though primary constituency was white males -- largely Anglo’s (American, British + Aussie) and Slavs (Russians).  This mass was in front of the stage, intermingling with hookers who nearly matched them in number.   I found it rather sad, the whole hooker-client courtship.   Seemed to consist mainly of dancing (only during breaks… Back to Dubai
