Amsterdam.. Make the most of a short trip Mar 18, 2015
Easily one of the loveliest cities. Very well connected and fairly easy to navigate.

Do recommend the hop on hop off bus though do take the canal boat for a tour.

Rjikes museum and the other museums around are truly special. See at least one. Heineken, diamond factory, Anne franks house, Rembrandt's house.. All great choices for a first timer. Try to book tickets in advance online to save time in lines. Interesting red light area walking tour , and must say the tours offered by most tour companies are a good way to see the place and learn more. If you have time the Voldham day tour is very nice.. Covers the windmills and the countryside. A fun way to explore like the locals would.. Is to get on a bike and hit the city streets.. So much to see. The Kuekonoff tulips are on display from March 20 onwards for only about 5 weeks..

Amsterdam - city of pleasures Dec 18, 2014
Amster[dam] , the world capital of bicycles, freedom and tolerance, coffee shops , and not least known for the famous red-light district .

For those interested in museums, you can buy the card " I amsterdam " for 24,48 and 72 h .

Amsterdam , known as the Venice of the North , it is much more structured than the " sister " Italian.

Most museums are located relatively close to each other, public transportation works with precision of a Swiss watch and the metro is very modern .

Absolutely everyone speaks English very well , so do not worry if you do not know the language of Van Gogh .

Red Light District may seem to some a hideous and grotesque , depends on what mood you go . So , the business really begins only after 22:00 you do not even have room to walk on the narrow streets .Photographing is not allowed under any circumstances!

You can take a cruise on the canals , free , based on the card ,departure from Reijksmuseum or Centraal Station , cruise lasts about an hour.

Holland is known as the country of tulips so you can buy from vendors on the streets tulip bulbs .

I think Amsterdam must be visited at least once in life:)

I wish you a pleasant holiday and enjoy all the pleasures of the city!

The Netherlands May 26, 2011
Oh,Netherlands,Netherlands!.. Country, really small, about 300 km. Dutch annually bombard the shore with sand, artificially multiplying its territory. And even the capital is named after the rivers and dams. Transportation is mainly a river, so that I would call the Amsterdam-Dutch Venice. But do not forget about bikes, if you're on wheels, then you have a huge advantage over the passers-by.Of course, the city does not possess the purity and morals are very loose. Legalized prostitution and soft drugs are allowed to freely sold in the Coffee shop. The population is very bitty, but still friendly. Due to the huge number of channels can be confusing.

The local houses, surprisingly, no lifts and spiral staircases are so steep that sometimes you have to climb. So spending a good time, leave a little strength to get to the room.

With a choice of hotel will be no problem. Their full of expensive to cheap. But 'if you want to save, then book before you travel.

Red lights is a separate issue.Shoot at the camera there is forbidden, but it is actually quite prosaic: sex shops, gay stores, specialty theaters for adults, the rooms where they make Thai massage and more.In windows you encounter the living half-naked girls.

In general, satisfaction receiving everyone from children to seniors. The city has many different museums and a wide choice of cuisine, souvenir shops. And for shopaholics separate street with shops.

As for me - I would gladly go back and experience the atmosphere of general madness, again.

The most beautiful city I've seen! Jun 29, 2011
I traveled to Amsterdam in April of 2011 and it truly was the most beautiful city I have been to so far. There is water everywhere, it is clean, the people are nice, and the architecture is unbelievable.

During the time I went the weather was beautiful and it was also tulip season, so going outside of the city was amazing.

I would absolutely recommend renting a bike and spending a day biking out of the city! It is all flat, so it isn't a difficult ride, and you get to see some of the country side.

The other thing I would recommend is the Anne Frank House. It is a piece of history that should definitely be appreciated and learned from. If you go at the beginning or very end of the day you will likely miss the huge line. But even if you have to stand in line, it is worth the experience!

i did amsterdam for new years as well...twice. once when it turned 2000, and then when it turned 2004. both were absolutely crazy. it is silly frigid, but there are so many people in the streets partying you kind of forget about the cold.

however, iceland sounds pretty cool too.

This was the beginning city on our first European tour with Brendan Tours. We flew via KLM airlines into the very nice airport where at the time there was some minor road construction going on which made traffic a bit of a problem. The local people were all friendly and helpful, unless they are on a bicycle and you are walking where you shouldn't. This as a very bicycle friendly city and nearly everyone owns and rides a bike. (I understand that bicycle theft is high so most people use the oldest, poorest looking bike they can.) The transportation system is very good and we found that it went everywhere we needed to go. We didn't find the "red light" district very enjoyable, but I must say that we were there in probably the quietest hour of the day, just prior to dark. And we missed the Sex Museum. The architecture of the city is wonderful, and the canals are enchanting. The tour we got as part of our tour took us by glass roofed taxi boat thru all of the canals and past several sites, including the Anne Frank Haus. Our tour included a tour of the Rijksmuseum, which we found to be very nice. This is a great city to visit.

people there can be very angry when they pass you with a bike or car, i have seen many fights about that.
don't blame on missing the sex museum, it's the worst museum in town, only build for making money and it is nothing!!
