Introduction and preparations
posted by:
Aug 21, 2008 - Jul 31, 2009
Hi there, Welcome to my blog about a journey from Panama City to Cancún. This trip should happen in july 2009, so yet this blog only contains preparations for the trip. But first a little introduction. A few months ago we, a friend and I, decided we wanted to make a trip through a country in Central America. At that moment we didn't knew which country we really wanted to visit, so first some research had to be done. After the research we had a problem, because we wanted to visit them ...

I'm hereeeeeeeeeee...........I made it to Amsterdam after being on a bus for 17 hours from Bath where I recovered from being sick for 4-5 days, on the 17th I arrived at the bus station jumped on and off we went to Amsterdam, it's now the 18th and I just woke up from a much needed nap considering you don't really sleep on a bus. Unfortunately I so far can't get a wireless connectin at the hostel so I'm using the computer that they have for everyones use. The hostel is actually in Utrecht but i...

the day before my flight back home, me and hanh decided to visit a coffee house. she was living in amsterdam for 2 months already and hadn't been to one yet. neither of us are big potheads, but it's just something you have to do if you're ever in amsterdam. so we decided to half a brownie and go to the van gogh museum afterwards. what a life altering experience! haha, no it was cool :)

Ready for the Himalaya?

In the evening the entire group (things had been pretty individual in Kathmandu) went back to the airport, where we checked in. Unfortunately the airline would not label our bags all the way to Amsterdam, so when we got to Heathrow half an hour too late, we had to pick up our bags, go through customs and check in a different terminal. I guess it will come to no surprise when I say that we were too late for our flight. Luckily we got seats on the next bmi flight to Amsterdam, only 2 hours late...

Pictures: http://goodfarmerchen.smugmug.com/gallery/2847172 Wow, so I'm finally caught up to the present; this entry will cover my last week or so in Amsterdam, from May 5th - today. Tomorrow I'm flying out to meet Joann and Lizzie in Florence -- I'm super excited to see them and hear news from home, but know my slow and lazy days are at an end. We have an ambitious itinerary of 3 Italian destinations (Florence, Cinque Terre, Rome) in 6 days, then 3 Greek destinations (Athens, Sant...

Amsterdam, Amsterdam, Amsterdam, woooooohooooo, I’m in Amsterdam!!! And what a fabulous place it is! Everyone has heard all the stories and laws, but still it’s hard to imagine a place so liberal and open minded, let alone all that set in a beautiful setting of winding cobbled streets and canals! Mind you, it was an absolute disaster when we first arrived. My bungy shoulder has been playing up a treat, you gotta love that feeling like someone’s stabbed a scalding hot blade into ...

My First Time in Amsterdam
posted by:
Jul 14, 2008
MY FIRST TIME IN AMSTERDAM “Have you ever been with a prostitute?” Well, this wasn’t the kind of question I’d been expecting, ya know? This is a case where you’re gonna have to tell me. I got off the night train from Copenhagen to Amsterdam without having slept much, which was the usual when traveling overnight in a train. I don’t know how I got to the hotel, because I musta sleepwalked the whole way. I don’t remember anything else until I woke up in the hotel bed at around ...

Schiphol Airport: Great Dutch Art and Odd Urinal Decals
posted by:

We are in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, which seems to be part airport and part shopping center. The only “duty free” purchase I have made is a big bag of  Haribo Goldbaren candies, which I can buy at our local Target Store. But I am addicted, it’s been 14 days and I couldn’t resist. I also couldn’t resist the McDonald’s, where I had a Big Mac. It is average food, I’ll grant you, but at least you can depend on it being average wherever you go. God bless America. Besides ...

Visa in the pocket!
posted by:
Jun 12, 2008
Getting a visa for China is not easy these days. Due to the protests during the Olympic torch tour, the rules for a Chinese visa are tightened. 9 months ago, the four of us booked our plain ticket: arrival in Hongkong on the 16/07/08 departure from Beijing on the 16/08/08 A tourist visit into China could last 60 days in September 07, so everything seemed fine. But suddenly, papers are starting to write about tightened rules. The standard 60 day tourist visa is changed to a ...

My alarm clock went off at 4 am. I have never been much of a morning person and this morning was no exception. After a barrel of coffee and two cartons of cigarettes, I finally felt awake enough to take a shower and get dressed. The taxi I had ordered arrived at 5:15. I gave my wife a good, long-lasting kiss and left with the taxi for Leidschendam where my sister lives. From there, her husband’s chauffeur drove us to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS). My mother joined us at the airpor...
