Koninginnedag, or Queens day, is a Dutch holiday celebrating the Queen’s birthday. It’s celebrated yearly on April 29th or 30th which is not actually the present Queen’s birthday. It’s her mothers birthday, but she decided to keep the holiday on that day as a tribute to her mom. How sweet. Queen’s Day is basically a big party. My wife and I spent a few days in Amsterdam where we took the oportunity of going to the zoo and various museums.  We went to the Van Gogh  museum (he is one of our favorite painters) and Rembrandt's house.  Unfortunately, this was before we had digital cameras, so I don't have many pictures in the proper format to post. Do not beleive the 94 date in some of the pictures, the date went to default and we never noticed until it was too late.

Ok several of you know and I think a few of you have guessed and everyone wants to hear the story so this blog is a special, kind of personal, edition in my Europe travels. I finished work for the month on August 5th, so packed myself a bag, hopped on a train and headed to Amsterdam to meet up with Maarten before we went off on our Hungarian adventure. I arrived at Central Station Amsterdam. I was walking in the station looking for familiar faces. Everybody could be a travbuddy. Devika said that we all would meet at the meeting point CS Amsterdam. But where was that meeting point? It appeard to be outside, close to the taxi stand. And then I found them: travbuddies from all over the world. Suprise suprise, we went to some more pubs. My last night. I wanted to go to Leidseplein because I liked that the best. We saw those dancing guys again, I don't know for how many times. There is an Australian outback restaurant where I wanted to go to eat. I ate grilled ribs, my favorites and I was so full!

Arriving in Amsterdam I was pleasantly shocked by the beauty of the cannals and how quant the town is.
